experiencing (most likely) clutch slippage in my 2007 5. 9l 6 spd manual (2500 QC/SB). It has 46k miles and I'm the second owner, as of Sept. In the past couple months, I've noticed that when getting up to hwy speed and stepping on it in 5th and/or 6th, at about 2500 rpm the rpms wind up disproportionate to the speed and waiver a bit and then drop back down. Its not until the rpms drop back down that the speed actually increases (or power is being transferred to wheels). Clutch slippage, right?

I'm taking the truck to a very reputable transmission shop (nearby) next Tuesday to have them check it out. My main question is; If it needs a new clutch, should I go with the OEM replacement? Or take this opportunity to install a heavy duty clutch? If so, what? 2nd question- would I be better off having the regional cummins shop (1hr away) do the work?

I don't hot rod and/or tow/haul extreme loads. Probably never will. The truck is completely stock and will remain that way.

thanks.

I would go with an aftermarkrt clutch , such as a South Bend. I called talk to them an they recommended what I have. I tow very heavy, 27K plus. I am very happy with it. The gentleman I talked to was extremely nice.

I would go with a SBC single mass flywheel conversion kit, they are stronger and last longer than the OEM DMF crap.

I did the solid flywheel kit from South Bend, the single disk CoFe kit think it was. So far I'm very happy with it, though I have had times when it's humid out that it get very grabby I have to let it out very slowly allow it to slip a bit then it behaves. Make sure that the guy doing the job is careful when removing the transfercase as to not damage the output shaft seal on transmission. Also be sure to get the South Bend Master and Slave cylinder kit.
