Slop in steering box revisited.....

Well I bit the bullet and called my local dealer to get a price on a new steering box and was not totally offeneded but for $500 i can have a new one. Not really to bad and on top of it I inquired about parts for the box and all they could get me was a seal kit. Big Woopde do!!!!!!!!!!! Anyhow alot of fun that was, Are there any good 3/4 1ton truck parts yard in the country anywhere????? Friends i have in the salvage Bizz tell me everytime 3/4 or 1 ton dodge comes up at a weekly salvage sale they bring top $$$$$$$$$$$$$ no mater burned up rolled up ect. Does any other truck use this box??? I think its a TRW. Comments, Advise ect ect. Turbine Dude

AGR SB-2 steering box

If your going to replace your steering box, I would contact AGR Performance and price one of their SB-2 steering boxes. I believe they are about $280. 00. They are a quicker ratio than the a stock steering box and are much more durable. Fortunately I have haven't had any problems with my steering box, but if I do I will be purchasing an AGR box. when you say slop revisited is that from adjusting it the first time? I had a lot of slop in the wheel and the adjustment took it right out.

How do you adjust the steering box to take out the slack. My original box puked one nite while driving. Seal fell out of the bottom and instantly lost all PS. I have replaced it with an aftermarket box from local auto parts store. Appears to be same unit. Already has slack in the steering.

Box adjust

If you climb under the front of you trck and look at the side of the box it will have what looks like a large set screw with a jam nut. Back the set screw off and then back the jam nut out a few turns and go from there. Then turn the screw in, A LITTLE @ A TIME!!!!!!!!!!!! If you get it to tight it will DORK up the guts in the box and possibly break the follower for the gear. So be carefull!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to make people paranoid but I have seen people adjust boxes in off highway equipment very simular and break them in 15 minutes or less. It gets to a point that your not going to get it all Later T-D
