I bought a Putnam XDR hitch about 2 years ago based on the recommendations of the members of the TDR.

Just recently, I bought a Rapid Hitch adjustable ball mount and I noticed how sloppy the receiver is on my truck. Now I realize that it isn't supposed to be tight, but this is ridiculous. I can move the Rapid Hitch darn near 1" front to back!

I install the ball mount in the receiver on my Jeep just to make sure it wasn't the ball mount and nope, it fits nicely in the Jeep.

I know there are several guys on here with the Putnam setup. Are yours sloppy like that as well? I'm thinking it's not very safe?

I have one and I suppose it's a little sloppy up and down/side to side but not much front to back. I don't understand how you can get that much movement front to back unless you have the wrong size pin? I have used mine for over 2 years commercially transporting RVs. I also didn't use any weight distribution bars so it got a lot of hard use with all the weight pulling straight down on the back but never had any trouble. My OE hitch cracked on both sides like they do so I upgraded.

I'm using a drop hitch like I posted, so front/back on the hitch equates to up/down in the receiver. Sorry, kind of hard to explain for me.

Every ball mount I own measures 2"x2". The stock Mopar hitch measures 2 1/32 x 2 1/32".

The Putman measures 2 1/8" x 2 1/8". That's like throwing a hot dog down a hallway compared to the stocker.

Ok, I see what you are saying. Yes that is quite a difference. I have had trouble with some at work getting stuck in there or not fitting at all. I don't know, mine works but I agree it is a bit loose. I had never actually measured them.

did previous hitches fit the receiver better? what are the dimensions on the rapid hitch? i have the rapid hitch adjustable 10" drop model for my lifted truck and the stock receiver. it is a bit loose, but i haven't measured it!
