To make a long story short, I thought my system was low on R-134a this spring so I bought the kit and added some, and got the output down to ~55' on a 80' day. Truck sat for about a month and now the system again was putting out warm air, but after about 15 minutes it gradually gets down to ~58' on a 90+ degree day.

So my question is it seems to be working fine, just takes a long time to get there. Everything I can find is for systems that either work or don't. Any ideas?

my 96 is like that. It is almost like it needs to go down the road for a bit to get things going? and i have the right amount of 134 in it

For what it is worth, my 97 is the same way, slow compared to my car for instance, but when it gets cookin it runs you out of there.

My 2007 6/7 froze up and quite. Not only the quality and quantity of cold air but the air it self stopped when the system would not produce cold air. Very Strange, especially since they just replaced the HVAC system and the control consul both.

To cool properly the condenser has to have air passing thru it to remove the heat. The symptom you have could be a weak clutch fan. Most modern cars have electric fans and the fan turns on with the compressor, good cooling even in city driving. My 97 was the same way yours is and a new clutch for the fan helped a little bit. Didn't cool well in city driving in the 11 yrs I drove it!!

Based on what has been said here, and the teltale evidence of a leak at some joints, I suspect mine is just low on freon.

Had the system recharged and everything is back to normal. Almost to cold. They put a dye in so we could check for leaks. They could not find any leaks. I suspect when the dealer replaced the entire HVAC unit and the control consul, the engine coolant was low after the work so now I also suspect the same tech also did not check the A/C coolant and this is where it all began.
