When it is cold 30degrees or anything around there with the block heater on or off it takes about 20mins for the truck to blow hot air. The truck has new radiatror, warter pump, thermostat and coolant. Could it be the thermostat or somthing else or is this normal for these big cooling systems.

A stoped up heater core can cause the same thing.

I can go out to a cold truck at 30 degrees an have warm air in about 5 miles or less. In 20 minutes I have turned it off or slide the control lever to the half way point.

yup...

welcome to owning an old Dodge with a CTD... . better get a pair of gloves and a 12v seat heater cushion..... great trucks... one downfall if you live in cold country... once you get it warm... it's livable !!

My truck is more like Phillip's... . after about 10/15 minutes of driving I'm turning it down... and I rarely use the fan unless I'm stuck in traffic, not moving.

If I didnt drive Old Ugly in the winter, I would have to build a fire under it in the spring to thaw it out! :{ Besides, who would bust through the snow in the early AM to give the county plow a track to follow over the pass on Gap Road? (Probably my neighbor whom also has a Dodge) Oo.

You guys drive these trucks in the WINTER... ... ???

Like Phillip said... besides how are you going to wear it out if it sits in a garage? You don't want it to last forever do you?

Those guys in the midwest don't know what snow is! Snow is 3" an hour for 4-8 hrs. Lake effect boys! :D Syracuse, snow capital of ..... er New York or somethin' :-laf

PS- I don't drive mine in the winter either, would you drive your hot rod in the Salt City?

PSS- Anybody got a cab? Mines rusty!

At 30 degrees in 5 miles at 50 mph on level ground with no load in the truck the temp. gague should be almost half way to normal.

If you have no heat the heater core is stoped up or the temp. isn't going to hot when you move the lever. Water valve could be off or stuck partly off, it is Vacuum Operated. Vacumm hose could be broken.

The mode doors could not be working but they should go to defrost if not working unless stuck.

Arrowsmith, only A/C equipped trucks have vacuum controls. The heat only's have cable controls.

DP, I'd love to come get it, but my wife wouldn't see the humor in it! ;) It's a long way to drive. Can you ship it? :-laf

I would lean toward plugged heater core unless your truck has not had the thermostat housing addressed. In that case the thermostat could being hanging up on the poor casting that some of these trucks had. The water valve is something to check but if I am not mistaken the vacuum pulls it closed, not keeps it open and that can be manipulated to stay in position with a large bolt if necessary. Or remove it and put a ball valve in, what a PITA that would be.

The factory service manuals are hands down the best manual compared to all others available, but there was a serious brainfart when it came to supplying information on the heater core removal and replacement. I have heard how big a pain it is to replace one in a truck with A/C. I have a brand new core waiting for the swearing event. Does anyone have any tips?
