Is it me? Or do these trucks just run like crap in the cold? I'm sure I have plenty of #1 and #2 diesel mix + Kleen and Magic oil stuff. But dang, even on level 5, the hot juice is just a dog today, and yesterday too...



Also, I'm not so smokey anymore! :) I'm sure the cold air is burning more fuel then not, but then again the performace is down. So this leads me to think that my fuel is just "thick" and not flowing as well...



I wish I had a fuel pressure guage. .



Temps: 9 degress this moring. , 19 at lunch when I just went for a drive for 45 minutes.
 
Really? Mine is stock but I have never noticed it being slow on cold days. It pulled my sleds up the pass this morning like the beast it is. The cold should help, denser air to start and better cooling in the intercooler.
 
there was an issue with these esge unit when things got hot. Maybe they do no when things get cold?



After about a good hour of drive, my truck perked back up mostly on the drive home from work tonight.
 
Read the EDGE manual for goodness sake

It tells you that the juice module will not add full power until engine temps are above 175 degrees. Makes great sense to me especially for your injectors and your oil. Too much fuel in an cold engine and it will run much worse. If it adds fuel at cold engine temps you will flood and lug the engine way to much.

Yes. I know. the water temp was not the issue here at all.

Also, there is a "clunk" or "knock" sound. when I enguage the clutch when it got cold. This morning, it's 32+ out and that noice is now, gone. hmmmmmmm



Performace is back now for the most part aswell.

Was 23 degrees out this morning when I fired my baby up and she ran a tad bit slow during warm up but once the temps got up then back to kicking arse in the fast lane. Do you plug your truck up at night? I know I did last night and made a huge difference from yesterday morning. Diesel will start to gel and get thick in cold weather. Also if you havent changed your fuel filter this cold season yet I would. My cousin is a cattle farmer and says he changes his on all the tractors and his trucks when the cold season comes around every year and before the summer hits good. Thicker fuel is harder to push through a dirty filter. It may not be gelling up yet but still thicker than in the summer. A fresh clean filter is less restrictive than a mid life filter.
 
Interesting data I found today. While being "slow in the cold" I noticed my boost level were rather low. I can't get above 30psi. I notice I'll hit 40psi when the truck has been idleing for a little bit, and after about 1/2 mile of travel in 28degree or less temps, things are slow again.



I pulled every connector, put some di-electirc grease in each of the connections and went for a run, same deal.



Also, when I went to the dealership to check on what a new MAP sensor would cost, $60. This same sensor has an tempature senor as well apperently. wonder if intake temps are part of the reason for this boost problem as well? Could I have worn out the MAP/intake temp sensor by running 10-14 more PSI of boost then stock would ever make?



Anyways, There is a dealership in town that has one. if they are open on saturday and grab one and see if this makes a change. .



Also note I have a edge juice. It could be the problem and not the MAP sensor. . Ever since I change my tire size in the ECU, the slip detection fails to work... . who knows... .
 
The KW I run has a fuel filter restriction gauge on it. When the fuel is cold, the needle is twice as high as normal, til the fuel warms up.
