The site is a little slow tonight . Is anyone else having problems or is it just on my end? I am using dial up modem so it is slow anyhow but slower tonight.

I just looked at the logs and nothing indicates any slow down. The mysql logs show a "slow" query rate of . 015% (slow being defined as a query taking more than 10 seconds) or 24 slow queries out of 165,054. The server load never got over 1. 3 all night with 2. 0 being 100% loaded where things would start slowing down. Also, looking at the bandwidth usage last night it looks like a normal amount of traffic was getting through indicating that there wasn't a problem with the hosting facility or the net backbone in the area of the server. I've included a picture of the bandwidth usage for last night. The best thing to do when you are experiencing a slow down is to run a tracert by going to the command line and typing:

tracert www.turbodieselregister.com

That will trace the route between you and the server and will show you any delays that are happening. It looks to me like it had to be something between you and our facility on the backbone to cause your slowdowns.

It been painfully slow for me at times the last week also many times it just stopped. Tracert always shows it getting hung up at a place called globalcompass.com

Global compass is the host facility we are in. If you are getting slowdowns there please make a copy of those tracert's so I can show them and get them working on it. You can save a tracert by typing:

tracert www.turbodieselregister.com >c:\tracert. txt

and then emailing me that tracert. txt file at stevest@voyager.net

Started running slow just now for me, took over 30 second from clicking the reply button until the message screen came up

I tried to run a trace like you said Steve but it said bad request and site not found. For those of us that are computer challenged, where is the "command line"? I'm assuming you mean the slot where one types in the address of a site and then hit the go button?

Thats where I was at and couldn't get any thing to work.

Trace complete.

Stan, click up your start menu on the lower left then click run. Paste in

tracert www.turbodieselregister.com

Click ok.

If I paste in tracert www.turbodieselregister.com >c:\tracert. txt

as Steve suggested the trace box disappears as soon as it starts with my XP.

For me to me to be able to copy the report I have to right click on the header bar (top) of the tracert report, click edit, then select all, edit again then copy. My cursor must be on the header bar each time there is no command box or it doesn't work.

Well, it looks like traceroute isn't going to work most of the time any more. One of the latest net viruses used the tracert port so lots of ISP's are disabling that port on their routers including our host facility. That is why illflems stopped at global compass (our host facility) and why Paychk's stopped in Dallas. Mine is now stopping 2 hops from my router. Illflems problems have been when posting which could be indicitave of some corruption in the database files. I'll stay up late tonight, shut the site down, and rebuild all the database files to see if that will help.

Just got done rebuilding all the databases. I had the site down from 1:00 am until 3:00 am eastern time to get it done. Let me know - I'm going to bed!

-Steve

P. S. Do you guys EVER sleep? The sites only been back up for 30 minutes and there's 86 of you online!!

Steve said "P. S. Do you guys EVER sleep?". . hellll no, we have to stay up and make sure your on the job :) back there so we have some speed out here

Robin woke me up about 10 to let me know that the site was down. Mysql was locked up for some reason. I've reset it and will be monitoring it throughout the day.
