In the last three weeks the starting has gone from immediate to a hesitant slow then to fast turnover and with pumping the accelerator finally starting and running fine. 2001(early) 160k lift pump replaced at 100K, new Continental batteries 1 yr ago. Testing showed alternator charging at 13V and batteries holding at 12V under load test. I'm planning to replace the fuel filter. Any other suggestions?

Might be a good idea to check your grounds to the engine block and frame, cleaning them up if the're dirty should help things in the cranking department. Also, might want to look at our main wires on the batteries, the insulation can get old, start to crack and you'll see some corrosion show up.

i agree check the ground wires and also replace the big guage wire that goes to the starter. i worked on a 99 ctd that had a problem like yours and new batteries and a new starter and it was still slow. changed the ground wires and the positive starter wire and shes fast now!!!! these truck draw a lot of power to start and if you have a bad wire it will cause all kinds of problems.

Many Thanks Batphreak and John Boy 5---I cleaned the battery wires carefully; all connections were tight, I talked with my battery man and he replaced the two batteries under warranty for $20. 03. She starts right up and runs fine----I'm blessed--Bill Cooney (Edgar 2)
