Recently bought an 03 Dodge suppose to have just had the in tank fuel pump conversion done. I have noticed that this truck has always spun over awhole lot more than my 2nd gen before cranking, always wandered why?? Lastnite i was out and it took several times of turning the engine over before it finally cranked and on the way home the throtlle seem to have just lost response when i shifted into 3rd gear. When i went to crank it this morning same thing execpt many more tries before it started. . HELP. . One other thing i have noticed about this truck during acceleration the thottle seems to have little or no acceleration after a certain point just like it is starving for fuel. Truck has no mods or gauges as of yet... Thanks

I have an '03 I bought new with no modifications to the engine. I have straight through muffler, gauges and removed vanes in the intake tube. I have 75K miles racked up. I was having these symptoms. Long cranking with very rough starts after sitting for 10 hours or more. Dead spot in accelerator pedal after shifting. It took 4 trips to the dealer. Under warranty the dealer first converted to intank lift pump and tightened 5 of the injector lines at injectors. Next they replaced the cam position sensor (long cranking times). Next thing replaced was the fuel control actuator (fca). It has been 3 weeks and all is well.

I also have longer cranking time then on my 1999. My new to me 2003 takes about 3 revolutions before it fires unlike my 99 with took 1 revolution. Why????

Should I just live with it.

From what some people have said on this board... sometimes it just takes these truck a few extra revs to build the rail pressure up to get it to fire.

Just had the same problem with my 03. Dealer replaced 1 injector and the problem was solved. 2 weeks later the problem started again so I took it back and the dealer replaced another injector. Works great for now. . Dodge will only let the dealer replace injectors 1 at a time due to the $900. warranty cost for each injector repair. My service rep claims its because I have 98000 miles on my truck and dodge is just trying to let my truck go out of warranty. .

The 3rd gen will have longer crank times than a 2nd gen. I have read that the computer needs to find #1 cylinder to time all the fuel system injections.
