Hey guys, I just had my charging system checked less then a month ago and last night I noticed she seemed to start a tad bit slower then usual (yes only us TDR Cummins freaks can tell a milli second difference in starting time). Could my batteries be dieing on me? Is there something I can do to stop it? Fluids are all good in the batteries, or should I just go get a new pair? Thanks

Mine did a similar thing as yours and it was one of the two batteries. I waited and a couple of starts after it was slow it woudl not start. Put in two Optima Red Tops and fired right up. :)

I'm not sure if it would be your batteries or not K. considering your "sunny climate" unless they are just dieing of old age. Check and see when they were installed, or have someone with a battery tester test them.

I had to get a new battery Fri morning. Started fine 1st time, then high idled with my foot for a few seconds and left off and she died NOT to restart. :( Jumped it will dad's toyo-yo-yo toco and went to work. Tested the batt. s @ work and the good one still had 651CCA's while the other only had 430CCA's. It managed to started at lunch and I went to wally world and bought a Everstart 850CCA batt. with 9yr warrenty!Oo.

Sorry for the personal rant. anyhow since you've already down the LarryB contacts, and the fuel return hose try checking the connections at the heat grid. Someone suggested that on my "LONG" starting prob. thread.

Okay, update-had my batteries rechecked today, everything good, alternator good, so I took my starter to Checker to have that checked and ooh didn't sound good at all, kinda sounded okay but not perfect so I got a reman unit and slapped that in, so far so good. Mark I think I should check my heater grid connections anyway, especially with all the work I'm gonna do under there with my #11 install. Thanks again everybody:) !

And oh yah I did take my super contacts out before I took the starter in and there going right back in my new starter in a few thousand miles;).

:--) I was just about to ask if you remembered to take them out... . then I scrolled down :-laf

WHOA! Now this morning I fire her up and get a GEN light after a minute and the volts go a tad above 14, then I try to start her again and get a click the start:confused:   ah what is going on here?

K. man I'd find somewhere to get a second opinion on your alternator. :(

Mark, good idea, think I better do that and soon. Anybody have this kind of problem and found it to be the voltage regulator? Just wondering cuz I don't hear as much about that as the other components. Thanks guys!

Voltage regulator died on mine last year. Bad part is that it's built

into the computer($$$). Now it has an ordinary Dodge regulator

on the fender liner. :D The only drawback is the check engine

light stays on.

Needed a new alternator a few months back also.

It's not hard to power the alternator field independant of the

regulator to test if the alternator will charge. I'm hesitant to

tell you to do it though in case something expensive happens

to your truck.
