Slowing with an Auto transmission

Iv'e read of autoloc, pressureloc etc. and am puzzled as to what to do, and would like to rely on the team to help me again.

I would appreciate some input to correct my situation as best(and less costly) possible. I have a '98. 5 4x2 QC with an auto and 354 gearsand tow a 32' Alpenlite 5er. Since an exhaust brake is ineffective,as I understand,even Mountain Tamer?? What would be best to help the transmission slow me down?

Auto transmission Towing

I'm in the process of upgrading my transmission so I can effectively use an exhaust brake. The DTT smart box will allow you to keep your transmission locked up when going down hill. Now with an exhaust brake you can get some retarding going down the hill. If you do this you need a transmission temperature monitor. I had mine in the transmission sump, and now I'm relocating it to the line from the transmission to the transmission cooler. You can damage your transmission if it get too hot.



In addition I've added the DTT valve body and torque converter, which will strengthen the transmission. I also increased the oil capacity of the transmission oil sump with a new transmission sump. Finally I added another box called an EZ which changes the timing of my Cummins diesel in order to get more power and torque when towing. This is expensive and so far I've not tested it by towing my 5er.



In addition to the DTT web site mentioned above, there is a quite a bit of info elsewhere on this web site. A phone call to Bill K at DTT is worth the time and expense in trying to understand the best way to get engine brakeing with an automatic transmission. Bill helped me decide what goodies to add to my truck.
