It must be something on the backbone between you and the server Gary. Looking at the logs the slow query rate (which is usually what goes up when things are slowing down) is at . 007% which is about half of what it usually runs. Server loads are low and I'm showing a normal traffic flow in and out of the server.
I think there's "something going on out there" in Internet land - my connect speeds are the same as always, but after a normal spurt of data flow at the start of a new screen, things get REAL slow as though there's a big bottleneck somewhere on the backbone...
I also note a LOT more double posts on this and other boards, as though other users are getting the same effect and attempting to resend posts they think didn't make it the first time...
Wonder what NEW "homeland security" snooping software Big Brother has installed to keep track of us...
Looking through the server logs, the mysql performance data, and the throughput data from the ISP (their router) I see nothing on our end showing a slow down. I was staying at my parents last night and during the day today and performance on their cable modem was horrendous today. Now that I am home I'm having no problems at all. Seems like it must be a backbone issue out there.
This site has been real slow for me lately, if I go to another un-named diesel site it seems normal. Both from my house (56k) and from work (T-1) it is slow.
There is definatly something suckin' down some seroius bandwidth out there in networld. It seems today every other page request turns up a timed out message. (AND THATS using mt t1 connection at work) Some pageloads are stupid fast some hust hang and hang. Like accessing this thread for instance.
We're getting blasted by two different search engines right now trying to crawl the site. They are both obviously on EXTREMELY high bandwidth connections so they are requesting pages way faster than our users ever could. I just shutdown mysql for about 10 seconds which generated error messages to them so they should move on for now and come back to us later. Server load has been higher for the last 2 hours than it has in the last year and a half.
The members online area below on the first page dropped to 10 members or so then I refreshed the page and we were back up to 122 or so (Prolly when you reset)
MySql? Are we humping on Linux/Apache/OpenSource here? If so, way cool! I've been running Linux at home since around 96 or 97.
PS: Isn't a name like St. Anything a real joy in todays computer world? Are you sure it isnt Stlaurent, Laurent, sorry, no St. Laurent listed here, ad infinitum. Drives me crazy. My latest experiment is St. John without the space. In fact just lost a package with a DC radio/CD because it was sent to John (just plain old John)
We're running on FreeBSD here. I'd never get any sleep if we were running on windows!! Yeah, the name is a pain - but it always has been. Sometimes stuff gets put in with the L's sometimes the S's, etc. I gave up on the space a long time ago, was much easier to run it together.
