Must be nice to have a dealer open on Sunday :)

How far do you want to go with your Sport conversion? The headlights are different too.

The bumper brackets are not the same between the sport and the Chrome bumper. The $305 you were quoted was most likely just for the bumper cover. There is also a support bracket that the bumper cover mounts too (found only on the Sport models). And the bumper brackets themselves are different. If you need the PN's for the additional brackets I can dig them up. I do not remember the exact cost but these brackets but they will cost you over $200.

Obviously the grill is different but good luck finding one for $70. The aftermarket ones I have seen are $150 and at the dealer they are over $300. The grill bracket and hood latch are different between the two style grills.

iceman, what are you going to do with your old fog lights? i have been thinking of adding some to my truck. if you still have them let me know what you want.

Mine has all those items so that must be what mine is also. The only way to get the painted grille and bumper is to get the Sport package right?

Yes. My truck is an SLT with the SLT Plus package and the Sport trim option added. In fact, it has every option available except 4WD and auto trans, neither one of which I wanted. The Sport trim was $288 invoice price.

I called them thursday my mind is still mush after all this darn holiday crap, and it blocked out " ****** " whats up with that! I called a salvage yard and they can get me the 99-02 sport grille for 70. 00 yes thats the larger grille that comes with the sport. Sooo pretty much im stuck with running into something before i can get a sport package front-end :( Id leave the headlights the same that doesnt bother me.

It just depends on how much money you are willing to spend. You can get $250 or so out of your OEM chrome grill and bumper so that is something to consider. $70 for a 99+ Sport grill is a steal you better grab that.

what will I need to convert this SLT to sport! (parts wise)

post #7 on page 1 has a list for the bumper and grille swap.

if you want a detailed list with prices i can put one together for you ??

if you get the $70. boneyard grille you will also need the grille frame and secondary hood latch rod.

i didn't change the slt headlights to sport yet.

i decided to leave the rear bumper chrome/slt.

wtfd6,,

slt bumper with fog lights is going on my 94 .

i used all new OEM parts. grille comes painted to match the truck color but the bumper cover comes black and needs painted.

i will be converting the head lights to the quad light sport version soon. i keep asking myself why i didn't order a sport when i bought this truck:confused: i've been wanting to do the conversion ever since i bought it. anyway,,it's done now:D

I like the sport look. Real nice on that paint sceme. The grill on the SLT pic looks different than most. Was it after market or stock? I like vertical lines VS the honey comb style. NICE TRUCK!!!!!!

msnow,,sorry i missed your question back when you posted it.

the slt grille in the pic is factory/OEM.

maybe the angle of the pic makes it look different.

I got the sport front now WOOHOO! Oo. Oo. but now I have the fog light issue. My truck didnt have fog lights but there is a plug-in in the middle of the front end under the innercooler/radiator that was taped back. Is this for the fog lights? I know i need a new pull out switch but what is that plug-in for that I found? i called the dealer and he wasnt sure since his books didnt get into detail on the schematics of the parts.

Thanks guys

Ian

the plug is for the fog light pigtail. thats where it is on mine.

make sure you get a fog light pigtail for a "sport" not a slt.

the sport wiring/pigtail is longer.

show us some pics once it's done !!

Slt +

The SLT+ Package only existed for 2001 and 2002 Model Year then essentially became the Laramie. If I remember right it was only available for 2001. 5 & 2002, wasn't available for '01 trucks built between January and June 2000.

I was told by the dealer that It was the plug in for the overhead console (temp reading) and the wiring "T" was 100 bucks BUT they had a kit for my 01 to add fog lights for 170, came with EVERYTHING so I wired it in and its working A+ now!

Pic I took this morning- (paint booth heater is down as of now but it will be up and then I can paint it to look stock)

So who has the info on how to convert to sprt headlights? Mine is older so I know the wiring will be different. Do they even fit in the stock bracketry?I love the lenses.

If someone could just tell me where to get clear lenses i'd be pleased.

Thanks,

Kyle
