Small question

In the near future I'm thinking of buyin a new camper. I have a 24' TT now and I'm looking at getting a 5ver this time but have a question about 5thwheel hitches. Is there a hitch that mounts on a goose neck ball? I have a goose neck hitch in the truck now and really dont want to put ralls in the bed like the other 5ver hitches use, because I use the bed for other stuff like hauling lumber and other building supplys. I know the Coddey hitches are not good on the trailers that's why I would like to find some thing that would mount to the ball of the goose neck instead of going with a Coddey hitch. If there is no such hitch then is there a 5ver hitch that doesn't use those 2 big ralls that mount to the bed?



Sorry for the long post but I'm new the 5th wheel campers.

I'm gonna say that I would caution against using a goosneck setup to haul around a fiver. I have seen some posts about these placing too much stress on the trailer frame and causing problems.

the older reese fifth wheel hitches had two rails that mounted over the wheel wells. these stayed in all of the time and the head was about 4 1/2 feet wide to lay in the rails. i have one of these in my old chevy 1-ton and works ok because your bed is still free to hall in flat. this is one option. there is also a hitch that does mount on the ball can't remember who makes it right off hand. hope this helps.

B&W Turnoverball with Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch

I would strongly recommend looking at the B&W turnoverball gooseneck arrangement with their companion RV (5th wheel) hitch. There are too many documented failures of 5th wheel frames when gooseneck adapters have been bolted to the 5th wheel pin boxes. 5th wheel frames are not designed to take the higher torques inherent in a gooseneck trailer design. The B&W arrangement uses a conventional double-pivot 5th wheel hitch that attaches to an adapter that fits into the gooseneck receiver, so no additional stress is created on the 5th wheel trailer's frame.

Have you looked at 5er hitches? My reese is removable in 5 min + only leaves the 2 rails about 1-2 in. high, so carrying lumber is not a problem.

DO NOT install this type! The previous owner of my truck did, I still haven't welded the cracks up where it tore out.

I already have a goose neck hitch, it's a DrawTite Remova Ball. What I was looking for is a 5thwheel hitch that would mount on the goose neck set up so I wouldn't have to mount something else in my truck bed. I sent an email to DrawTite and there is nothing like that that exists. So it looks like I'll have to mount the rails in the bed and go with a normal 5ver hitch. So I have a nother question; is it best to buy a heavier hitch than you need or just stay with one that's rated close to the camper wait?

i would go a little heavier than what is needed now. because like the 24"tt the new 5th wheel will become too small and you may want to upgrade. E. T.

Extreme The rails are inthe bed AND bolted to the frame!

Darrell I have seen a box extension to use a gooseneck - I just don't remember where.
