Small stock tires...

If you want to stay with your stock wheels and plan on going with BFG AT, I would not go any larger than 285. From my experience, and, from listening to reputable tire dealers, the sidewalls of these tires are weak (for lack of a better word) and tend to want to roll from side to side, which will bring on DW. However, I believe if you read most tire manufacturer requirements, they will all recommend a wider wheel for 33" and up.

I run the 285/75r17 toyo open country AT. They are almost 34 inches in height and seem to be lasting really well. Plus they are a load range E tire with nearly a 4000lb load capacity. Scotty

I've run 315/70 BFG ATs on stock alloy wheels and now on H2 wheels. Slight rub with stock wheels, no rub with H2s. Got 60K+ miles on the first set on stock wheels and they still have 20% tred left (they are sitting in my garage). 25K miles on the set with the H2 wheels, no obvious wear... the ATs wear VERY well and the near 35" diameter looks right!

I'm real happy with my BFG's. I don't do a lot of off roading, but when I do they work well. They have very good wet and dry weather handling and they work pretty well in the snow too. Some say that they tend to lose traction as they wear. They do a little, but not enough for me to consider switching. Besides, that's what the 4x lever is for! I have 53K on the set I have on now. They still do well in wet weather, but I'll have to replace them by the end of the summer. All in all, they are a very tough tire and will take a lot of punishment. I've been running them for 15 years and never had a problem.
