Carroll Saints Football!

Thanks for all the info guys. Lots to think about. Sooooooooooooo... If Verizon sells off its "assets" in Arizona for instance, will there still be Verizon coverage in that area? I don't understand all this legal mumbo jumbo much better than I understand the new phones nowadays.

Steve

it looks like verizon won't be selling off any of it's areas in AZ, just alltels. here's a link to a map that shows what should happen. (Alltel Byout : EVDOforums.com). if you read down that thread there is another link that leads to more detailed maps. so your alltel phones will be switched over to verizon contracts or you may be able to choose another service if it works better.

I am posting this from my Motorola Q smartphone. Once you have one you will wonder how you got along without it. I keep all my contacts, appoitments and get all my email on it. My Wife has an older blackberry and liles it, but it had a higher learning curve than the Motorola. Probably because it runs windows mobile, which is a real simple version of windows. The blackberrys are like switching to an apple after using a pc for years.

Thanks everyone. I didn't realize this would be so complicated. I have kind of decided to dig out my old Palm IIIe and ressurect it. I think I will just use it until this Verizon/Alltel thing gets all said and done, then see what happens.

Our big problem is where we are working. We are on the Navajo reservation in Northern AZ. There is absolutely NO VZ signal here. We had (and still carry) VZ before we got here, but since it didn't work, we had to get the Alltell phones. Not sure when this contract will end or how long we will be here. We don't want to buy VZ phones now, because we can't use them here. If we buy Altell phones and leave here before the merger is completed, we won't be able to use them on the VZ network after we leave the reservation unless we modify our calling plan. But, when we leave the reservation, we don't want to continue to carry 2 phone contracts and will revert to VZ.

This probably makes as much sense as a screen door on a submarine, but thanks again for all your input.

That area is not too good for any service... typically not too many towers around.

When I have been out there, only two services ever worked... Verizon and ATT. At one point, Verizon was the best... but they have since lost ground to ATT.

I carry both, ATT is mine and Verizon is work's... there are not too many places the Verizon will have signal that mine doesn't, but there are a lot of places the Verizon phone is dead that I still have good signal with ATT.

i am sitting on the fence right now between what to get. i have been looking at the BB storm and bold, along with the iphone. the storm is good, but lacks wifi so that really kills it for me [and not yet avalible on gsm network]. the iphone is neat, but the plans cost too much [start at $60 + fee's & tax]. i can get a good data plan with the BB bold for ±$60 [tax & system fee's included] but that lacks voicemail so that add's another $8 a month on top of that.

all this stuff costs too much

I have a problem with the Iphone in that it only works on ATT. Nothing against ATT, but they have a rule that half or more of your calls must originate from your home area. Since we make our living by traveling, we don't have a "home area". In fact, we don't even own a house anywhere. Since we are never "home", we cannot use ATT.

We went to the VZ store tonight while we were shopping in Flagstaff. They told us that by February, VZ will be using Alltell towers. So, where we have Altell signal now, in February we will have VZ signal there also. So, we will wait until Feb. and see what happens before we buy anything fancy.

We will let you all know what happens... ..... if we are still here then.

Thanks again... Steve
