Anyone with Goat Heads?

little giant 17 ft ladder

I have a galaxy j3 smart phone, Ive had it for a couple of years. The bluetooth works great with my and my wifes cars. Its been working great with the alpine radio in my truck. However, starting a few months ago, when I try to make a call, half the time it works. The other times (happening more and more) if I try to make a call, it will come back and say " calling home mobile....on speakerphone". It then disconnects from the radio and reverts to the phone. Ive gone round and round with my carrier and with samsung with no luck or ideas at all. Has anyone had this problem ? And maybe found a solution ? For the alpine application it has to use the google assistant dialer which is where my guess the problem is. I tried a different dialer application (android auto) which seemed to fix that problem. But it would always turn on "do not distrub" which is not acceptable so I deleted that.

Have you tried it with your phone first locked and then try again with it first unlocked.

It appears there is a known issue with some versions of the assistant, there were a few ways to fix it not all seemed to work, some included clearing the cache on the app., rolling back the updates < most likely this was why it worked a few months ago, you would have to read up on the updates to see what they are for because security fixes could be rolled back.

Make sure your alpine unit is included in your android smart lock list as well, that wont fix the google assistant but could be causing some of the issues. That allows trusted devices to unlock your phone. If you go.to settings search smart lock and it should pop up.

Did all the other stuff. Even going back to a factory reset. But I havent tried that. Ill give it a try.
Thanks

What Ive discovered is that if I make a call with lock screen enabled, it goes to speakerphone. If I unlock lockscreen, it works.

Smart lock should unlock the phone when paired to your radio. This way when you go to make a call its unlocked and should work.

From the setting page search smart lock, you can add a trusted device from your paired list.

Of course depends on your OS if you have that.

I saw that, but it did not help the problem at all. However, I did finally figure out a solution (or at least a work a round). I went into developer mode and found I could tell the screen to stay active while the phone is charging. It always works when the screen is active. It dims the screen so you can hardly see it, but calling works now. I just have to remember to plug the stupid thing into the charger whenever I drive the truck. (doesnt have a problem with my cars, the dont need to use ok google to make a call)

My Alpine Bluetooth has the detachable faceplate.
Every few weeks it starts to malfunction in every manner
I remove the faceplate, use alcohol and a Q-Tip and clean the contacts. Fixes it everytime.

Ill give that a try when I get my truck back from being painted. But Im pretty convinced now that it is a problem with android 7.0 or 7.1 that is known but not addressed or acknowledged by samsung or google.
