I've read alot of the Smarty threads and it seems most are using it in combo with another performance unit. I'm interested in how it functions alone - particularly for towing performance.

Smarty alone...

I like the Smarty by itself. . Other than for the peddle touchyness it is great.

I like the idea of the software knowing what is going on in the engine and not being 'fooled' by a 'black box(s)' inbetween the engine and the ECU. If the performance software is done right, you shouldnt need to 'stack' stuff.

I personally think that when you do stack, you throw to many variables into the equation and end up with a crapshoot both as to how well it will run, and if you are getting into dangerous operating areas. Each 'power adder' has his own ideas on what it is going to be doing to get good SAFE power, and if something else is tweaking the signals at the same time too, well, "you are on your own". .

Just my own $. 75 opinion... (adjusted for inflation)

The Smarty by itself rocks. Since I haven't found the magic combo for my stack, I run around 90% of the time with the Smarty alone.

I'm running the Smarty by itself right now. My first night I gave #9 a try and opened her up to 110 mph,egt made its way to 1450 and fuel preasure dropped to almost 0 when I slowed her down. I would only see 106 mph stock on the dually I know the srw guys are getting a little more top end stock. The next day I set the Smarty at #5 (90 hp & timing) and its fun to drive, smoke is managable if your light on the pedal and don't lug the engine when shifting. But if you want some smoke its there for the playing with. I put 16,000 lbs of gooseneck on the back last weekend and set the Smarty at #3 (60 hp & timing) now if you are pulling any kind of grade on take off the smoke will roll and thins out at 10 psi of boost. My son followed me back home and said there is a constant light haze of smoke while pulling at cruising speed (60 to 70 mph). I could not really see it through the mirrow but if I mashed the go pedal the black cloud would roll. I still need to hand calculate my mileage as soon as I quit having fun playing. Thanks Marco Oo.

i think that because the smarty is not based on the stock platform, no timing duation box will be perfect, but i think that a few pressure boxes i have tested work very well, and may be the only way to have a close to perfect stacked combo... ..... hopefully i will be able to prove it at the fall brawl Oo.

What boxes are you running to get 800hp?

The smarty is the best single performance box on the market, hands down. I've tried everything on the market that I know of. Nothing works as well as this thing. The only thing close to comparison is the old Bullydog Power Pup with the Crazy Larry software. But it had a LOT higher egt's and not quite as much power, and bullydog has caused lots of ecm problems for me and several more that I know of. Next in like I guess would be the TST PMCR. The early twins version was nice, but the late twins version was lacking big time for power, IMO. I never got the power out of the TST that I'm getting with the smarty, but its still a nice box. I suppose the New TST is awesome. Can't wait to get one. But I'll always run the Smarty. I'm gonna try it stacked with the new TST later. Never thought there would be one single thing that satisfied me like this one does. And the wierd thing is, it smokes like a train if you get in it hard and has tons of power, yet I'm getting the best mileage ever and egt's are very controllable.

That's ironic. I have tried every performance option on the market as well and I would put the Smarty with its current programming just a couple up from the bottom of the list, one step up from the Banks Six Gun. :-laf Due to its high price, lack of features (compared to other programmers), and lack of sensible drivability..... the list goes on. There is better bang for a lot less buck I think.

Programmers are like turbo lag though..... everyone has their own subjective opinion. It's all about you anyway and what you like, not what everyone else likes. :)

If I was your parents I would be embarrased.

Could not have said it better myself. I personally love the smarty, but It is not for everyone. It gives me the feeling I am driving a truck with a heavily modded p-pump with a lot less lag (variable timing). I like the feeling that my right foot is directly connected to the fuel going into the engine. Best advice would be to drive a truck with smarty first to see if it is for you.

All I'm running is the SMARTY and compared to the bully dog power pup, well I can't compare the to, it just wouldn't be right... I have it set on 90 HP with timing for just running around, but I've set it on 9 have a 04 305/555 so it's not 170 HP, but I can lay some smoke...

Just gotta love the secrets Luken, everybody wants to know how you done and what you did it with.

But you know:

I run 1000hp but cant show a dyno sheet but I know it is a 1000rwhp, I can just tell. It is stock turbo too.

Havent seen anybody run over 800rwhp with a 3rd gen who didnt show a dyno proof(these fellows I know are RC, I. I's truck, Reb B, will see if someone else can join the list Oct. 21 or 22). Just cant wait for Fall Brawl, some body else can have the opportunity to join the 3rd gen 800+rwhp club. Go lmills :-laf :-laf :-laf Oo. Oo.
