I am considering my first performance upgrade. The spartyPOD. I have seen in the past that setting 8 and 9 on the 03 truck will not net 170hp what is the limiting factor on the 03 truck that will not allow this? Will the smarty POD give you the same adjustability as the REVO? If the programmer only comes with 9 setting how can you switch between 100 on the pod?

Dan

The way I understand it is that the POD gives you the option of setting #9 or any other setting and only using say 25% of the total 100% power of say setting 9. so on to 30% 31% etc etc all the way up to 99% 100% giving the 99 choices of power levels. If I am wrong, some please correct me. I dont know about the differences in settings related to different year trucks. I'm curious though as I might like a Smarty after I have built transmission and gauges

The limiting factor on the 03/04 trucks, was the smaller turbo and cast elbow. Eliminate them and you can utilize all the sw#'s:D.

One of the things you may want to consider is that if you run the higher settings on the Smarty, you MAY be compromising things on your truck like the trans. , turbo, etc. If you don't mind upgrading some of the other items, I'd say go for it.

I wasn't interested in making a "rocket sled" out of my truck & didn't want to have to do major upgrades so. I chose the Smarty JR (40-70 & 100 HP. levels). It works well, for me. However, if really high HP is what you are looking for, at any expense, then the Smarty would be a good idea.

Just a thought.

I was thought that the CP3 was the limiting factor with setting 8 and 9 on the smarty. I have ran my truck on #9, stock turbo, in short burst, with no problems. Smokes like crazy, my guess would be low rail pressure.

BLACK PEARL,

I wonder if the small turbo may be the cause of all the smoke?

It's amazing how turbo sizes have changed, over the years. My '91'5 W-250 came with a 21 sqcm housing. I installed a 16 sqcm housing & it made a significant difference in performance. My newer '03 has a 9 sqcm housing. Builds boost immediately but, feels like it runs out of capacity at higher rpms. Could be my imagination!!!! However, there are a lot of company's selling aftermarket turbo's for our trucks.

If you have the time... . check old threads, it was discussed alot. Marco specifically stated that it was the lack of air/small turbo that limited the 03/04 trucks. :)

Thanks I do recall that part, man that was three years ago! I do remember Marco said some about having to raise the rail pressure on the 03/04 that the 4. 5 and up didn't need, but I guess I don't remember why. Turbo is going to be my next step, when I get some extra coins.
