Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Smarty and Towing

Has anyone have any experience or expertise on using a Smarty and towing. My truck is stock and I have been wondering does the Smarty Run the EGT's up? My trailer is a 12K Goosenck.

Gosh I don't know about on a stock truck since it's been so long since I had one



However I LOVE the Smarty and I run it on level 5 while towing.

I wouldn't think twice about getting one!

IF my Smarty-equipped truck, with the other mods listed in my sig, can operate with the SUBSTANTIAL power increase they all provide - and still maintain EGT's well below 1200 degrees in typical towing situations up steep grades, your stock one should have NO problems!

I got my Smarty, programmed the truck to level 9 and put the Smarty away. That's where it will stay.



I ran the Superchips on the max setting when towing, just the Jeep/trailer, roughly 8000lbs, so nothing too heavy. But I got the EGTs to hit 1200-1250* once or twice, and that's not too bad.

While hauling my equipment for work, I tow on 5 but when I hook on to the 5er I go for 9



I got my smarty back in february, and turned her back to stock for the first time a week ago. That mode lasted about two miles.

I towed yesterday with the Smarty on #3(rig/me/all my stuff and traveltrailer was about 16500lbs) ,on mostly level ground ,some good hills,hottest i saw was1100(pre),800(post). This is with Mach 4's and a B1-2 tow to cool things down. Only one climb i had to drop a gear and build some good boost,but i was able to maintain 60 mph. Once it leved out or slight climbs i was able to stay in six gear(STEADY temps were1000pre/750 post),but with the B1-2 you kind of have to stay on top of the turbo,seemed to pull better when i was doing 70 mph than 60mph,they definetly do better towards the top end. Next time i probably try setting #5 and see how that does. First towing experience with these new mods(turbo/injectors/intercooler) and seems ok,i was really nervous with the 4's but they do ok,i was taking the trailer to its new home at the lake(rv lot)so towing will be at a minimum now. Maybe its time to sell the old Mach 1. 5's now. PS--- setting #3 is real clean,very little smoke

I towed my fiver (20680 lbs total weight truck / trailer) on #3 with my mods listed below. Handled very well and pulled at close to the posted speed limit. My EGT's were 1250° and boost was 30 lbs pulling most of the 6% grades.

Anything more than setting #3 and the turbo huffs like it is going to explode!!
