After a recent towing trip to the BlueRidge last weekend and some kinda high EGTs (1350-1450) I have tried a new Smarty setting that I think I have hit on a good setting.



With setting of 30HP/with timing I set all switches to #1 except turbo and torque. I set both of them on #4. I get better turbo response and good power. I am also running mostly about 900s for EGT. This is not loaded. But under full power I get the 900s. My overhead mileage is also pretty stead from 13. 5 to 17 and all this is pleasing.



Any ideas?
 
This may be good for your truck. i would track this for two or three months to insure that you are satisfied with the results before you make any other adjustments.

I have set my Smarty to the "ME" program . With all the pollution gear removed [exhaust and EGR] my EGT temps dropped from 1400 down to a reasonable 900-1000 when towing a 12,000 lb 5th wheel. I still have to watch my coolant temp ,it will rise to 210-215 on a long uphill pull.

I am running the 60hp plus timing setting . This seems to work better for me than the 30hp plus timing . I got better mileage on the 30hp setting but the engine sounded like it was falling apart . TOO much timing on the 30hp mode. The settings I am using are the basic not the REV ones . Mileage improvement with the Smarty is 2-3 MPG while towing and 3-5 around town. With the deletion of the pollution equipment my oil stays cleaner longer using an Amsoil dual remote filter set up[EGR delete], the truck now cools down to 300 degrees on the pyro before shutting off the engine and improved mileage. Down side the truck is louder with engine and exhaust noise but still reasonable quiet on the highway while towing.
 
Just finished a trip to the BlueRidge this weekend with the setting mentioned earlier. For sure they are the best so far. I have lowered my EGTs in hard pulls down to around 900-1000. Several times in 6th gear I had to go down to 5th. to keep the RPMs higher. My mileage does suffer a little.
