About your Speedo problem. Yes I've seen that happen to the VP truck's also a few times ( The ABS is basically the same since '96 they went with a different unit only in '06. . ) What happens is that the ABS does not always "take" the new programming. When asked it answeres with the setting one has programmed into it but it does not change the speedo. Normally another programming takes care of that...

I went ahead and had my dealer reprogram my ABS RevsPerMile for the change from 315s to 285s on Friday afternoon. I verified the rpm change at certain speeds seemed correct. The Smarty was unloaded and I was stock at the time. On Saturday I updated the Smarty with the latest software and loaded SW 4 and did some testing. Everything seemed fine and the rpms at known speeds were the same as before the Smarty load. However when I put the Smarty back to stock last night at the track it seems like my RevsPerMile went back to the same as they were for the 315s. Is this possible???

Right here and now I would dare to say NO it's not possible!

Smarty works like this. When you change the ABS settings, BEFORE Smarty changes the values it reads the ABS for the actual value it's programmed with.

Smarty assumes that one is the "stock" setting for that truck. No matter what value the ABS is set to, Smarty stores THAT value in his memory as the original "stock" for that truck. Now you change the settings and do whatever you want with the ABS. OK?

When you return the ECM to stock, Smarty returns then also the ABS back to "stock". Keep in mind, stock means here the original value read from the ABS in the beginning! Furthermore, if you do not change the ABS settings, Smarty will NEVER change anything in the ABS when you return the ECM to stock.

Soooo... Makes sense?

Kind of what I expected to happen, but somehow it has changed. I will try to use the Smarty and change ABS tire size and see if it takes this time.

If you did not change the ABS settings then Smarty did not even ask the ABS for it's settings even less has Smarty written anything to it!

In poor words, Smarty does not even talk to the ABS if the customer does not change the settings.

Marco,

I found the problem with the smokey starts and rough idle,

before i left on my 6000 mile trip i started using the Smarty and Power service/MMO mix for fuel additive, i quit the additive and no more smoke and much smoother starts.

Just wanted to let everyone know this was not a Smarty problem.

RDusch,

I don't know what problem your truck has. One thing is for sure, Smarty HAS all the TSB's that have ever been released on board! The 18-037-04 and ALL the others!

Let's expand on rough running. Do you see that in the stock setting only or on all the different softwares? The reason I ask is simple. The stock setting is simply like the perfromance softwares but without ANY modification done.

Thanks,

Marco

Is it best to return the ECM to stock before updating the Smarty with new software, or can I skip this step and update to the new software?

Thanks

it does not matter.

Bob,

Thank God you said that. I updated my Smarty, but still had a previous version loaded in my truck. Then late last night, it hit me, and I was thinking oh s#$t did I screw up? But, I loaded the new version this morning and everything was fine. Still, good to know.

I just loaded the Smarty S-04A Ver. 3. 07B, Data: 2. 02B and dont like it as much as what was in it from when I bought it. The pedal is to mushy and not as much smoke..... Where can I get the original file at?

Marco has to add all the new chrysler software codes to the old software.

when you updated to the new software you also update your ecm software.

So if you tried yo use the old software "smarty would say unknown software" since it does not have the old software numbers written into the old software.

It's on the to do list :)

Not that you guys don't have enough to deal with, but when can we expect to see the "Should have bought seatcovers" program that obliterates torque management and threatens to tear the truck in half?

Did you try the 3. 07B Data 3. 02B? The one with Moderate TQ.
