I recieved my smarty yesterday but cant get it to do anything... ... i keep gettin the "wrong vin #" message... ... i've tried letting it set with the key on and trying again like the booklet said with no luck..... anyone had this problem or know how to fix it?... ... thanks

Did you contact Smarty? If so,,, what did they say?

My first question would be do you have the vin entered in your ecm. If it was flashed previously and not entered the smarty would not be able to vin lock on your ecm.

Did you by any chance have a different downloader installed before???

corey had his ecm flashed back a couple of ys ago and never used another ecm product.



cory has a friend at a local dealership.



Smarty needs to read a vin to be able to lock n load :-laf . We did verify that the ecm software code was valid.

So I'm looking at getting a SAMRTY, but have the Bully Dog Power Pup... I can't set the truck back to stock with the P/P and use the SMARTY?

You can set the truck back to stock and load Smarty just fine. I have been switching back and forth between the two since Smarty came out. Just remember to always go back to stock first or you will lock out one of your programmers.

Ditto, I have switched back and forth a couple of times already. But I probably will stick with the Smarty.

I had my truck reflashed back about 3 or 4 months after i bought it (may 03)..... they may have done something incorrectly then... ... i'm taking to my local dealer tomorrow to have them hook it up and check the ecm for VIN ID... ... if it's not there hopefully they can program it... ... i'll report back after tomorrow morning.....

You have the key in and turned on b-4 you plugged it in,. . right?

tried it both ways... ... all the same... ... i can check dtc's and view key cycles... . but no programming

well..... i'm in business now... ... went to the dealer this morning and had them verify how my VIN was entered into the ECM... ... . according to the ECM my VIN was "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"... ..... so we entered the correct VIN and i was able to reprogram with level 5 on the smarty... ... this thing kicks..... much stronger than the EZ on any level..... it smokes a bit down low..... but only if you're lugging the motor... ... if you keep it in the revs a light haze is all you get... ... .
