I know the top rpm is the same with all SMARTY settings. My question is there more horsepower on#7 than #5? . I have been towing with #5 and I am having no problems. However I notice a lot more get up and GO on #7 would like to try towing with # 7 but I really like my stock 47re. Any words of wisdom will be welcome. Charlie

Charlie,

From my understanding the Smarty top end horsepower is very similar on 3, 5, 7, and 9. This difference is the amount of fueling (horsepower) early in the power curve. I think top end horse power is around 65-70 on a stock truck. Of coarse the increased acceleration would be harder on a transmission.

I prefer to tow with Smarty on #3. You're not going to accelerate quickly grossing 17K anyway. You spend most of your time trying to maintain the ideal RPM range, around 1900-2100 with some boost and reasonable EGT. But then I have 90HP injectors and a stock turbo, so really plenty of fuel to go the speed limit anywhere.

I think Neil has it pinned down. I generally run have mine set on SW5 all the time. Mostly because I like having more throttle movement. In my case I am able to tune the Hp with the TST.

I think all of the SW settings will work for running loaded, with exception of the Fuel Saver. But you sure want to be careful how fast you push the pedal down at low RPM's. It is also my opinion, that on SW9 you can relatively easily trash your automatic transmission loaded or unloaded. It can be a bit touchy especially when you over do it.

You can get to the same throttle response on any of the SW settings. Its just that with the lower numbers you have to push the throttle pedal farther to do so. Maybe consider SW3 or SW5 for towing and SW9 the rest of the time.

Thanks guys, that is what I was hopeing for. I have been very happy towing with #5.

However knowing or thinking there is more there for the asking makes it hard to resist.

Thanks again for the words of wisdom, I will stick with #5. Charlie
