Amsoil Bypass Question

GL rating for the NV5600

I am thinking about purchasing a Smarty JR and was wondering how it effects your EGTs. I have a 2003 NV5600 and everything is stock except for an MBRP muffler, AFE Stage II intake, and a CFM Intake Manifold. I do not have any gauges now but plan on getting them before the upgrade. What kind of EGTs are those of you with a Smarty JR getting on the different setting? Are they going to be signficantly higher than stock to a level where I could melt or damage something?

I just join this form recently so sorry I am still trying to figure out how to make a Sig. I have been a reader for the last couple years but never posted before so this is my first post.

Your EGT's should be lower than stock with the JR. but gauges are always advisable. To enter your signature go to Control Panel. You can fill in your profile and signature that way. You'll be amazed with the Smarty.

I have an almost identical truck, other than the CFM Intake Manifold. The only time I was concerned with EGT's was when I was towing my 7000+ trailer up steep hills (mountains) in the Performance Mode(100 HP). Even then, they only got in the 1200+ range for a short while.

Last Oct. , I towed for over 3600 miles in N. CA. , OR. , WA. , ID. UT & back to AZ. I used the Towing Mode (70 HP) & never came close to getting hot.

The Smarty JR. is a great product & very safe, in my opinion. I would definately buy it again. I've never had it get dangerously hot. However, I would still recommend guages.

I have the Smarty Sr.

I have it set to Level 1, which is timing only and no additional fuel... which I believe is very similar to or exactly like Level 1 on the Jr.

I saw my EGTs drop while towing approx 100 to 150F under the same conditions, road trip, weather, etc as when I towed w/o Smarty. They are now approx 1150 F, maybe 1200 F max. This is with my foot buried and climbing very steep and long grades with the 11k 5er.

What I have especially noticed, is the need to no longer keep my foot buried as the truck will climb the biggest grades now with 1/2 throttle. I am sure my combo of CFM+, exhaust, cold air kit and injectors are working very well together... Now I just have to worry about my auto transmission...

Mileage increased by approx 0. 5 to 1mpg too (towing).

With the POD and REVO for the Smarty Jr, I am sure you will love the performance and economy gains.

The one warning I will alert you to... once you start adding power, its never enough. Its like a drug or game, especially if you are a gear head type. You will try Level 1 and soon on 2 or 3... But its all good !!

Mike, I got my Smarty Jr from Bob 4X4. The only changes to my truck are cool air intake and a free flowing muffler (that would make a difference in power). I tow a 4000 lb TT in the Colorado mountains, my EGTs have gone down about 100 degrees and I have much more power with a 1 mpg increase in fuel economy. It is a simple matter it take the truck back to stock anytime you want to. Smarty Jr is the best money I have spent on my truck for upgrades. I would buy it again from Bob 4X4 any time. I am certain no other device is better than Smarty. As to up-grade addiction, I am very happy with the driveability of my truck with Smarty Jr and don't plan on any other power upgrades.

I would just like to echo what a great product Smart Jr is. The best part is the performance, biut I also saw EGT drop 100 degree and picked up 3 MPG. I will warn you at the plus 100 HP setting my stock clutch can't handle that much power. But with the price of fuel I use the eco. setting all the time.

Joe

PS. I got the duel gauge from Genos and mounted it on the piller, it's a great set up and much easier than many other way of mounting gauges

Thank you for the support, There is an excellent article in TDR issue 63 written by TDR writer Joe Donnelly.

It's a good read for all.

Thanks

I second that Bob. I really enjoyed that article as I do all of Joe's articles. It was nice to have a face behind the name.

I think Joe did a good job explaining how Marco does his testing and all of the work he has to go through to write the programs that we all enjoy. People can speak negatively of the products you sell but, now that I know more of what goes on behind the scenes, I realize that they are ill informed and are being short sited and disrespectful. Keep up the good work. I can't imagine the complexity involved with the 6. 7 smarty. I am sure it will no doubt be well received when it is ready to be released. "For all good things one must wait"

And on the EGT note I recently towed with the JR on Perf at level 80 and I have seen a consistent 26-27psi with a high of 1300 F on a very long hill. The truck did not miss a beat and has the power I now think I need. You will not hardly break 1200 on tow. Thanks for POD.

Thanks for all the help, this seems like a great product and I think I am sold on it. As soon as I get some guages I will be placing my order.

You might want to get Smarty before gauges since you will get lower EGTs. Start saving fuel money now and if you drive like you always have you should not harm your truck any more than without gauges. Smarty will pay for it self. :-laf

When I first got my truck diesel was 30 cents cheaper than Regular gas but now diesel is about 90 cents higher than regular. The apparent $1. 20 increase per gallon of diesel makes pay back come quicker.
