Ok, thinking about buying a Smarty Jr. so I have some questions. (be gentle!). What are the differences between sw1, sw2, and sw3 other than horse power? I have read that sw1 is timing only, if so, than what are sw2 and sw3?

Than there is TM, TQ, and Pod? My guess is timing, torque and ? Anyone want to give me a brief discription of what does what?

Any info would be much appreicated. :)

As the software numbers go up additional fueling is added.

TM is timing, TQ is torque and POD is Power On Demand which is the ability to change the percentage of any SW from 0 to 99. This allows you to adjust the software to fit the needs of your truck. Very nice feature when limited traction is the case, such as ice or snow.

There really isn't much to think about buying a Smarty Jr, just do it. You will be glad you did.

Godspeed,
Trent

smarty has just changed the software up completely. someone here that is better at it than i am needs to make a sticky to post it. sw 1 changes many different things but not fueling. sw2 and sw3 is mostly fueling. tm on the new software i do not think changed. the higher the # the less control the ecm uses on torque. this was confusing to me at first. the original reason for torque management as marty calls it was a epa thing, it is the electronic version of a aneroid valve to limit fueling until the turbo had air to burn it, thus slowly ramps up torque. timing #'s have changed, tm2 is now back to max advanced 3 is less than 2 and 4 is less than 3. i hope bob wagoner will chime in with a list of changes or someone can find it and post it. be hauling first load with it today, will see if i can tell a difference. sbashaw the pod was made for kids who tinker with every thing, forget it. i run a fleet of 06's and tow very heavy. the smarty jr is the best. your truck is setup nice, you have the best controller on the market and the pac and bd are the best exhaust brakes made. i do hate the pos auto though. some on here will help more than i can with settings for it. but until you get a full build on the auto i do not think you should go above sw1 with the new software i would think tm2, tq2 settings. i think the new software is 514b

This is why I pay my $35 every year with out hesitation, good people , good info.

Thanks and keep it coming!

By the way, my Smarty Jr will be here tomorrow!

I posted my results on the other thread.
Basically I like it but those that like the a more "spirited" throttle response and noise may not. It really feels like a whole different engine after the update.

Went ahead and installed the update this afternoon. I only drove a few miles afterwards, so I will have to report back later with my opinion.

Well I just drove 1,000 miles pulling a 14,000 lb 5th wheel with the Smarty Jr on the tow setting with the 5. 14b version. All I can say is I wish I had my 5. 12 version back. The new version doesn't have the power in the rpm range I need. From about 1800 to 2200 the new version feels flat. In overdrive I can make about 28 lbs of boost before the trans shifts to 3rd. The 5. 12 would let me make about 35 lbs and then I would manually shift into 3rd if I was losing speed. What sucks is my Smarty Jr came pre-loaded with 5. 12 so I don't have the exe to reload on it. So if anyone know how I can get the old 5. 12 back I would appreciate it. I have to make the 1,000 mile trip back home and would like to do it with the 5. 12.

That's strange, I found that when towing I could now pull in 6th all the way down to 50 MPH whereas before, there was so much clutch/trans noise and lugging from the engine that I pretty much had to keep it above 60 in 6th. Plus it seems like there is a bit more torque at those lower RPM's.
Maybe because I was able to get into OD more or maybe because of the tune, I got about . 7 mpg (towing) better than ever on a trip we take often. Over all I'm happy with it.
The only thing I miss is the rush of torque when I shift under heavy load. I have to push down further for it now but at WOT I think the power is the same.

Maybe Mads will let you down load the old tune if enough people ask.

I loaded the Economy tune and left everything at the defaults, then put the jr. back in the case... .

The Smarty Jr. and my BD SBS are the two most surprising parts i've purchased for my truck! . .

Have no idea. I would email them but in the past, they never responded to me.
Good thing they have an exceptional product otherwise I wouldn't have anything to do with them.

I agree.
Does not seem companies respond to questions easily.
I emailed Ats a week ago no reply to date.
