Twin turbos ???

Just bought my Smarty Jr for my 2006 Dodge. The directions are a bit confusing for a simple person like me. I did successfully update the software on the Smarty. .

Now onto the hard part: Looks like you have several options ot chose from but I am not sure how to proceed... Is there a simple setting I can use or do I need to set the timing and torque?

Most of the time I do everyday driving and in the summer I tow a 8k trailer; I do live in an area with a lot of mountains and would like the extra power to tow in the summer.

Any help would greatly be appreciated... . I did upgrade the transmission last summer and I have stock exhaust and a aftermarket air box.

I assume you are talking about the 1=Performance, 2=Towing and 3-Fuel Economy??? Do I need to set the POD or adjust the Torque.

Thanks for the reply

Exactly - I started with #1 and drove it like that for all of two days. Then I got bit by the bug! I just keep it on 3 and it runs great without adjusting any of the POD or torque. Since you have upgraded your transmission, you should be pretty safe.

I just loaded my truck with the economy tune and left everything else alone. Love the extra midrange power and quicker throttle response. Have also noticed that when pulling hard (30 ft. travel trailer) up hills, the EGT is lower than it used to be.

From this blog, am I to understand that 30hp gain is the best setting for fuel economy, without adjusting the timing anymore?

Really wish I knew. I've tried all three levels and found very little difference in MPG. Catcher #3 git about . 5-1. 0 less than the others which isn't very definitive.

I've been running mine on level 3 and get 1. 5 to 2 mpg better than stock. Noticed it after the first tank and has been doing it every since.

With a stock auto trans and towing 8K thru the mountains I suggest the following settings.

SW1
Timing: Default
Torque: 4
PoD: 99

I would say the timing and torque settings are still good for heavy towing in the mountains with an auto, SW2 could be used with a tq converter and valve body, and TQ3 would be okay if want a little more torque down low.

Wow. I have been playing with my Smarty Jr for well over a year and I still have not figured out what setting is best!
Generally, I think the SW3 (Performance) is the best all around for power and economy, but others have different opinions. I have found that with Timing set at 4, the smoke is too much for me and the power between Timing 3 and Timing 4 is not much different (seat of the pants feel).
I absolutely agree that the written instructions are pretty vague and could use a total re-write into correct logical English.
You might try giving Rip Rook at Source Automotive a call and ask his thoughts on a good setting---he has dealt with literally hundreds of truck and is sure to have a good suggestion of where to start with the Smarty Jr for you.

When we had our 03 with a auto pulling a 10K trailer we put it on SW3 and put it under the seat and forgot about it. No problems. With that said, when we got our 05 with the 6sp I did manage to spin the stock clutch on SW3 on a steep grade and had to replace it with the Valair we have now.

From my dyno experience TM3 to TM4 is about 30hp different. Try TM2 it's only about 10hp behind TM4, just talking about the timing aspect of it. Torque is a better number for timing gains, as timing gains are in mid range and peak hp gained is very minimal.

TM1 = stock
TM2 = +68 ft/lbs
TM3 = +23 ft/lbs
TM4 = +90 ft/lbs

Those were on my truck, when it was 100% stock with a smarty jr and amsoil air filter. I didn't pre-load the truck, just got it to 1600 rpms and rolled the throttle on. I am willing to bet I would get a lot higher gains now, and will find out in May.

On my 5600 I run the tm at default and torque at 3 IIRC one up from stock. Throttle is too touchy at low speed otherwise. I run on tow and POD 95%.

Pulling my 36' 5th wheel the tow tune runs cooler than stock, gives up no mileage loss to stock (although no gain either), and has much better power in midrange.
