I haven't gotten my EGT gauge in yet and I am leaving next week for Yellowstone. I am stock other than the Smarty Jr and I will be towing 7,000lb trailer and 4 people. I plan on using the first setting maybe the second also. Will I run into any excessive EGT problems?

no your egt will be 150-200* lower with the smarty jr. set it on tow and go, when you get back or if you can before you go download the test beta4 you will like it a lot

should be fine... thats the point of the jr. anyway right? I tow the same weight on the second setting regularly and its fine. If I floor it it will slip the transmission slightly which i dont like so I leave it on #1. You will notice a lot more smoke if you are using 50??D. I just got the beta low smoke and it is night and day on #1. Almost no smoke even under load and it feels like it has more low end power... hope that helps

Thanks, I already downloaded the low smoke program (Thanks BOB!!) I always watched the EGTs on my second gen when towing. It ran the hills like a bat out of hell. Just got tired of the automatic.
This will be the first good tow with my '07, 5. 9. I have the late ratio G56 and my Pacbrake. I am getting antsy to see how it does. I WILL be driving for my best economy... . $$$ is t-i-g-h-t this year... . but, we plan to have a great time. May camp out at Camp Walmart on our way to yellowstone.

Anyone know if I will be ok on the 2nd setting(70hp) with the stock clutch and towing 7k?

I'm towing almost 11k with 80hp injectors and Smarty on Level 1 (30hp) with great (low) transmission fluid temps and no slip that I can sense.

I really believe that the common denominator on the clutch / TC slippage and Smarty on any level are the oversize (larger than stock) tires. The guys with the 35's vs. our stock 30. 65" are putting much greater stress on the clutch and/or TC with any power adders and towing.

Just my observations and opinions. I think you will be fine. You will definately see lower EGTs, better throttle response, improved power and slightly improved mpg's. Enjoy it and let us know.

Regards,

Louis

No it will not be necessary. . . but as I recommend to anyone who tows you should put it on your list.

i have 35k towing gcw of 21,000 lb on tow setting and not a hint of problem. a lot of people are running 150 more horsepower than this with no problems

I just towed from Atlanta up to Mt. Rushmore with the Smarty Jr. and exhaust temps never got over 1200*F on any of the hills so far. set the cruise on 60 and let it go.

Travel safe and keep grinnin
