Hey guys, ordered my Jr today from Bob. Just wondering if you guys think I need gauges? Right now I don't tow anything and basically use the truck as my daily driver. Mainly just wanted the Jr for fuel mileage purposes. From what i've read, I don't think i'll need the gauges until I start thinking about towing stuff.

Most will tell you yes, I agree! Its the cheapest insurance you can have on your truck IMO!!! Especially if its gunna have any type of mods.

I put my gauges in the first night I had the truck, when I started putting more fuel and air to it i could see the changes and how everything reacted.

With the JR I would do atleast boost and EGT

Mattymac, thanks for the reply. I will eventually get them. I guess I was just wondering if the Jr would increase the power enough that I could tear something up without having them. I don't abuse my truck with hard launches, powerbraking, or anything like that (aside from an occassional hard run to blow the soot out of it... haha!!). I just know it'll be awhile before I can talk my wife into letting me spend another couple hundred bucks on a gadgets for my truck! It was hard enough to talk her into the Jr!

if you're just daily driving the truck, you shouldn't have anything to worry about w/ the Jr.

with that said, I like having gauges on my truck because you can quickly see when something's amiss as your readings will be abnormal.

But, I would have no fear loading up the 100hp program and just driving it for as long as you want before you get your gauges.

Forrest, the main thing I think about now without gauges is my boost pressure. But wouldn't the computer throw a code anyway if my boost was running too low/high?

We have the Jr. on my dads 06 and I love it for what he does it's perfect hp IMO. I did go ahead and put a pryo, boost, and tran. and the thing has never seen over 1400 deg. pulling up to 25'000 pounds and we've got some hills around here but every truck is different so I would go ahead and put gauges in it you never know... ...

ive got the smarty jr on my 07, and on any setting i can get the egt's to 1400 easily with no trailer. probly fine without gauges. depends on how much u bag it.

Your going to need gauges no matter what!! This is especially true if you live in higher altitudes like me. I found that i could pull the needle to almost 1400* on a stock engine. Its the cheapest insurance for the truck because they are diagnostic tool even though you have a smarty. And how are you supposed to tell how long to cool the truck down w/o them?

I would say for now don't stress but they are something you need to get at some point. I have watched my gauges and Jr is pretty safe.
