not that it's likely:-laf but have any of you guys/girls purchased a smarty for the mileage improvements and made an attempt to keep track of the improvement ...

we've had the wifes '06 for close to two years and it's rolling up on 60k

with a gutted cat, straight cat back system, afe drop in and modified air box she has seen almost dead on 18 mpg in day to day driving ... extremely consistant

20 on long highway trips ...

with 5$ a gallon diesel i'd like some results to see how long it would take to pay itself off

and we look forward to a little smoke so we're not concerned with that at all ...

I got to about 20mpg with the old smarty with timing only. That would be the REVO SW on Economy timing with the current SW. I changed to the newer SW with stock injector timing only which isn't quite as advanced and it dropped about 1/2 mpg to about 19-19. 5 (highway only). I'm trying the aftermarket injector timing now and we'll see. All hand checked. That's not bad mileage for a truck with a performance suspension (read higher ride height) 315's, an ARE top, and a couple hundred pounds of gear. Stock I was at about 17 - 18 so the Smarty timing is worth about 2mpg on my truck.

I have not gained any mpg with the Smarty, but I certainly have not lost any either.

I have to be honest here, I have never checked the lower sw#'s for mileage, I have almost always been on sw#5 or above. I can tell you, running the 411 tune, sw#9, wild tm, with the mods in my sig, I have consistently achieved 18+ mpg traveling 70+ mph between Spokane and Helena. With the exception of the last 55 miles, this is all interstate, but there are 3 major mountain passes (4th of July, Lookout, MacDonald) to cross between the two cities.

This has all been hand calculated. One more note, the EZ on 2, TST mostly off, I did throw the TST economy program into the mix the last trip 2/0. That made more timing rattle and my overhead was promising better mpg, but hand calculated it was the same 18. 3/18. 8 mpg. I have never reached 19 mpg, even stock.

With the old 4x software, I consistantly got 20 highway mpg. Now that I have the TNT, the best I've got is 18. 8. Still trying to find the "sweet spot".

I was wondeering this also. Has anyone got a Smarty loaded with the latest software, running on the highest setting and pulling a heavy 36 ft. fiver. I have been using the tow setting at 70 hp, no more smoke. The transmission has been gone through completely by Browns Diesel and given all the Gorand goodies. Shifts great, pulls the fiver great, and concisely gets about 11 to 12 mpg with the fiver in tow.
I wonder if it will give any better milage on the higher setting? By the way, I don't flog it when I'm hooked. Just slowly give it what it needs to get to track speed on the interstate. [coffee]

I have the Smarty set on LEVEL 1 with stock RP and stock TM (because I don't want to damage the transmission... )

I'm seeing approx 0. 75 to 1 mpg improvement when not towing and approx 0. 5 mpg improvement when towing the 5er. All hand calculated as the overhead always reads 2mpg better than actual.

I'm also seeing approx 100 - 150F reduction in EGT.

Running level 5 on my last fill up I got 22. 4 hand calc. The best I could ever do before was just over 20mpg.

Most of the time I drive 90% backroad highway (55-60mph) and freeway (62-65mph), shift at 2000rpm, coast as much as possible when coming to a stop, and living out in the coutry once in awhile a rolling stop at 5-10mph to save momentum. Granted I still have fun with it once in awhile and the biggest drop I see is when I start to travel 70-75-80 mph.

I will try to get pics of my milage and gallons filled up later this week, plus how my overhead is off now since it read 25-26mpg now.

one thing I am convinced of is mileage is relative to where you live, in a place like georgia or texas, you will not be driving as fast normally as we do out west, when I am on the freeway I am normally at least 80 when I get out in the open I usually open it up close to 85, my last trip out to eastern nevada, I ran the truck up against the governor flat out most of the time, which was around 107 mph or so, when I did that I think my mileage dropped to around 11 or 12 mpg, running 85 I am in the upper 14's, if I keep the truck at 70mph or so I can knock down about 18-19mpg, with smarty on level 3, and only the second version of the software which is an old one. the guys that are seeing the 20's are not running over 70 much prolly around 60-65 most of the time

You should be on a motorcycle if you want to run those speeds all the time.

JC nice pic, I think my needle was right on the 110 mark, my tires where worn bad so the gps only read about 107, on a downhill I think I could get it to about 109, this area of road is near and on where they run the silver state classic, which is an open road race, if my trucks gear would allow it I would not feel bashful about running a constant 120 across these areas. people in the south and other areas prolly about freak to hear me say this, but the road and conditions allow these speeds safely IMO. however some would also freak out that I have been known to pull a cargo trailer at 85-90, they prolly have a point

That pic is a friend of mines right after he picked up his 06 megacab from Dave Smith

JC, I noticed from the dash that your friend should really be wearing his seat belt. :) But I guess at these speeds it really wouldn't matter.

2.5 more mpg

2006 3500 Megacab, 30K miles. I've had the Smarty Jr. for just over 10K miles. It has provided a 2. 5 mpg increase on program 3. (Thanks Bob) How many times do you have to pass that bicycle due to red lights... a little extra go peddal the second time and he disapeard. :-laf
