Anybody have fuel economy results when using the Smarty on various levels on a basically stock 04. 5 or 05? I remember seeing somewhere (maybe on MADS website??) about the MPG results were looking good from initial testing. More power, lower EGTs and better MPG? This seems like my kind of magic box...

Thanks

I'm not really stock, but I picked up about 1mpg over the TST on Smarty level 3. 19mpg 95% highway which I am pretty happy with considering 2" of lift and 325 tires.

I just got back form 750 mile trip, 87 top speed, alot of time over 70. Started at lea level and went to 6500 ft. went over several passes 4000 ft +. first tank came in at 18. 975, haven't filled up on the second one yet.

Just got back from a 450 mile trip. The run I make is from Portland to Coos Bay which is a 75% flat run on I-5 in the Willamette Valley. I run my smarty on #2, I use Stanadyne in every tank, and buy my fuel from Safeway.

With smarty- 21 mpg @ 67 mph

Before I had smarty- 18 mpg @ 67 mph same trip.

These are overhead readings, but they match the gallons and miles at the pump.

Thanks for all the feedback.

BMuffett, is the #2 setting the 60HP w/o timing? Do you have anything else doing timing? I was just curious, from what I have read on these trucks, the timing is reatrded a good bit for emissions purposes and advancing timing usually bumps MPG back up. Thanks for the info.

I lost 4mpg on my usual 400 mile trip using the 90hp program with timing. The cruise control just couldn’t compensate for the touchy go pedal, creating a speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down for 5 hours straight. Loosing the smoothness really ate up the fuel. I haven't checked it with the other programs yet, but I'm currently on the 60hp program and can tell from the fuel gauge that it has done a little better than the 90hp program.

I have a question and I feel stupid for asking, but the Smarty uses timing and no timing, what's the differeance between the two???

BMuffett,

Thanks for the clarification.

CHolman,

From what I understand, the 04. 5 and up have the timing retarded somewhat for emissions purposes. I believe that the 03-early 04 are not as bad. Advancing the timing seems to help gain back some of the lost fuel economy on the newer trucks. Please feel free to correct me anyone.

and reduced egts. so far up to 200 degree reduction reported by 2 users

I can say that my highway cruising egts were atleast 100 degrees cooler when I was using the Smarty.
