It has been discussed here, and on a few other forums, that without using a "pump tap" type box the HP gains will be minimal. Like 65-70hp at most. Is this really true? If so, I am guessing that driveability is vastly improved with the Smarty? The truck that this would be going on is an 01 with a well built auto and a triple disc converter. Truck will be used primarily for daily driving and some heavy towing once in a while. Would the Smarty be the best choice? Injectors and a turbo may be put on later down the road, but for now the truck is all stock. Is the Edge or Quad ADR (any pump tap box) a better choice for this application than the Smarty, or is Smarty the way to go for low end pulling power and a more mild, but still turned up top end?

The Adrenaline & the Edge comp are wiretapping boxes. The Smarty has an edge over the Edge on bottom end torque but the Quad appears to be pretty similar to the Smatry. If you don't intend to tap the wire, the Smarty is the smart way to go.

Can anyone answer the question of what stacking does? Will I get the same HP using the Smarty alone as I get with the Edge comp and smarty stacked. Is a dyno the only way to find out? Has anyone done it?

I know that when it comes to comparing between the different boxes it is mostly opinion. Is that the case here?

#1 Stacking is just combining two power add ons for maximum fun!

#2 No, at the most you'll get 60 hp out of a Smarty, you will get around 100 hp with a Comp. You will not get 160 hp by stacking them.

The Smarty has programs that add timing or do not add timing. The Comp is a timing and fueling box. To get the best performance stacking them you need to run the Smarty in the even number programs (no timing is added).

To get the best stacked performance with a Smarty, you need to run a fueling only box, like a TST Powermax. Run the Smarty on an odd numbered program (timing is added). MADS suggests stacking with the TST for the best performance.

I have ran my truck with a Smarty stacked with a Comp and with a TST. Both stacks gave outrageous performance! Unfortunately I never dyno'd either stack.

Paul,

Fill out your signature, it will help to answer any questions you have.

Also, the Comp is a great box. It is proving and has been around longer then most. I ended up selling my Smarty and going with a Drag/Hot Comp. The reason I sold the Smarty? Lack of on the fly changes and the lack of support from MADS regarding upgrades for the 2nd gen trucks.

Have fun!
