Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) smarty problems

i just got the smarty and added it to my truck. i already have the edge juice with attitude hot. When i run the 0-60 times i run best with the smarty on 8 and the edge on 5. then i tried the smarty on 8 and the edge on 3 then 4 seems to run even better but didn't do a test. has anyone else noticed this. also my main concern is that i cannot run the smarty with the edge on stage 6, seems to surge really bad and has low power. i tried it with the smarty on stages 4 6 and 8. can someone tell me why this is and if it is normal. any information would be extremely helpful. thanks

The highest settings aren't always the best as far as max power. For example on 3rd gens an ez stacked with a tst on 5x5 will produce significantly less power 4x3. I saw a dyno when this was 100hp difference.

Not sure about the surging. What turbo and sticks are you running?

I am interested in your combo though. Did the smarty add a lot to the truck?

there is a down load on www.madselectronics.com to solve the surge problem. it is free to download and all you need ia a usb cable. takes about 15 minutes.

thanks for the help i will look into the surge download. i thought that the paper that came with it said that they had the download standard after a certain date but not sure. as for my turbo it is still stock with a different waste gate elbow and the ring removed. produces 47psi peak though, not sure how it does it. and as for sticks i think you meant stacks or maybe injectors. my stackes are home made built them myself and really like them. used 5in pipe in the bed to so they look good in my opinion, hopefully i can get a pic on soon. and if you meant injector they are just 275 rv injectors i do believe. i am looking the mach or edge jammers but havent decided. if you have any thoughts on which is best let me know. thanks again for the info.

I am trying to figure out how you got a level 6 on your Edge box??



Get the download from the smarty website, it made my truck run much nicer.



As for power with my Edge Drag Comp on 5x5 and smarty on 8 the power is scary.

I have the J/A and in the menu it has an option for a hot unlock code. i sent the paperwork to edge and then called them and they gave me a 4 character code which unlocked the 6th stage.

you might want to get yourself an aftermarket turbo as well... pushing the stock turbo to 47psi really isn't doing you any good and can only lead to one thing... turbo go boom.
