Boost fooling

I ordered Smarty for my 2006. I began to wonder about this as well. My question is how much boost do the current Smarty users see? At what level will it throw a code? Can we clear the code with Smarty and leave no evidence? This could cost a little how about burning the file on a CD? I'm not sure how much a CD holds just a thought. We could be sent a burnt one we send a blank one back or something like that. Anxiously awaiting Smarty :-laf Oo.

Would it make sense to have several flavors of software available. For example for the 04. 5 and up crowd:

Some fixed settings:

max boost = stock on all SW versions

max boost = 40 on all SW versions

Max boost = unlimitted

Variable based on SW level:

max boost = SW#1 = stock, SW#3 = 35, SW#5=35, SW#7 40, etc.

Then a nice chart to show what the stock turbo can handle and what's recommended. People that have changed the turbo to a non-electronic wastegate could use the unlimitted and set boost via the wastgate directly.

Just some random thoughts ;)

One other question. With the stock turbo already beeing pretty small, how far can you actually run it up before it become too inefficient?

WOT

Hell, running the smarty on any of the higher settings on a stock auto transmission would probably fry it in a heartbeat anyway... ... ... I say publish its capability just like every other line-item in your sales material and call it a day. We all risk damage to our toys when we build 'em up like this.

EDIT** Better yet, make everyone call you, then provide their serial number and then provide the customer a temporary weblink to download the SW. That way if you really want it, you'll have exactly the boxes in your records that are using it. Otherwise, buttheads are buttheads and you'll never avoid 'em anyway. My 0. 02.

It sucks that you have to worry about it at all!! A disclaimer comes with smarty already. I vote for the agree/disagree statement. Also, as stated above(edit: #44) a download that raises boost level to 40psi would be great for people running otherwise stock- in addition to an unlimited download. Just my thoughts on it.

1 - 2 shift

Hi everyone.

The newer (October) programming helped quite a bit with the annoying 1 - 2 shift on my 05 automatic, but it is still very noticable in certain situations. It is almost embarassing in traffic. Marco, any advice? Is there a way to resolve this issue without sacrificing low-end power? Are there any hardware solutions that help with the 1 - 2 shift? I have already added an aftermarket transmission & valve body. This did not affect the problem.

The engine seems to pause for a minute to let the transmission shift, then nothing happens, then it shifts very harshly once or twice before finally settling into a gear.

At the same time, I don't want to give up and load the stock TM programming. Throttle response is my favorite part of the Smarty. I don't want to lessen throttle response in order to get rid of this obnoxious 1 - 2 shift.

I don't think any less of the Smarty because of this issue, or because it hasn't been addressed, because it has improved with the newer programs just not to my full satisfaction.

I appreciate that Marco subjects himself to our tireless criticism. I would just like to hear if he, or anyone else has any suggestions to fix or compensate for the jerky shift. I would be happy to try different springs in the valve body, or anything else that may work, but I don't want to pursue this path unless I hear that its worked for others, especially if a programming solution is eminent.

Thanks for reading.

Ben

Also, any plans on controlling TCC lockup in future updates? I like the ideas regarding boost that have been suggested in this thread. I don't want to hijack the thread, I'd just like to hear these issues being adressed. If there isn't a reasonable fix for the 1 - 2 shift, or if transmission programming is no longer being considered, I'll be fine with that, however it would be nice to hear whether or not these topics will eventually be an issue, even if they are not a priority.

I Got A BIG Problem

I can't wipe this stupid smile off my face now!! I LOVE this thing!! Last night, I loaded L9 to see what it feels like. HOLY SMOKES!!!!!!! This thing was rolling coal like I've never seen before, and pinned me in the seat  !! Tires broke loose from a 30 mph roll in 2nd gear!! :--) That is until my tq verter started protesting (it felt like it was slipping, started shaking a few seconds after I stomped on it :-laf ) So, for now, I'll leave it on L3 until I upgrade the trans. Marco, Bob, YOU 2 ROCK!! Man, it brought back memories of me driving my '66 Olds 4-4-2!!

Luken, Bob, and Others

The awkward 1 - 2 shift that I am experiencing certainly isn't the transmission's fault. It drives flawlessly without the Smarty loaded. And frankly I don't care what causes the awkward 1 - 2 shift as long as it isn't causing damage and the people selling Smarty acknowledge the issue, and help people deal with it in an upfront manner. Marco's willingness to subject himself to these forums is a big part of the reason why I waited for the Smarty instead of buying another box.

However, I think this is one of several issues that needs to be further addressed. Whether it is best solved through additional programming, or swapping out hard parts, it stems directly from the Smarty. I have never ran another box on this truck. My only other mods are the transmission, intake and exhaust. As stated in previous posts, the problem was evident before the transmission swap.

Others 05 owners have posted about this same issue. It has not been satisfactorily explained or resolved. These are the reasons why I am posting in this thread, to understand how to fix an issue - that affects multiple Smarty owners - in order to better enjoy my truck.

While this is not my thread, I feel that my post belongs here and deserves consideration from those programming and marketing Smarty. I would also appreciate any opinions or suggestions from other users. My minor problems with Smarty do not cause me to expect or require any more attention than anyone elses problems with their trucks.

That being said, Luken, I would appreciate it if my posts are not ran over by others that have exhausted their own capacities for polite and reasonable dialog - as well as the patience and concern of other users - in their attempts to fix their problems. Marco and other Smarty users made themselves available to try and help you fix your heavily modified truck.

Disturbing other people's opportunities to have their concerns addressed will not resolve your truck's problems - nor will it help anyone else or contribute in any useful way to these forums. Please do not manipulate the comments of others, especially vendors that make an effort to inform and relate with their customers, when I or any other users reach out for help.

Now back on topic, Bob and Marco, what am I experiencing when my truck hesitates and shift uncomfortably going from 1st to 2nd? Why does this occur? How would you suggest I frame my questions to better receive help from Dave when I ask him for help regarding this issue? And lastly, are there plans for TCC lockup control? I remember transmission controls being discussed before the 3rd gen Smarty came to market and I would be happy to hear whether or not they are planned.

Thanks everyone

Ben Waters

Excellent post Ben. It is a pleasure to see someone taking the high road in an attempt to have their issues resolved.

redfuelrules,
granted I have no personal first hand experience with the "awkward 1 - 2" you obviously have. That said...

Maybe you know that several TDR members have tested the " beta anti rattle" software for several weeks now. ALL reports have been : OK.
I have already re-done ALL the softwares for Smarty based upon that "beta" one. We're running now the last tests with it ( Checking for eventual errors and the trip data thing... ). We should be able to finish everything within a couple of days ( at latest ). Once we're done with our tests we'll promptly publish those latest updates ( Version X. 04 ).

Why I mention this latest update in regards to your shifting problem?
The most frequent feedback I got from them guys who tested it ( THANKS guys, you know who you are! ) was/is : Smooth power; Smooth transmission shifts... .

I'd say, let's start from that update and see then if we need any further correction. OK?

Thanks,

Marco

Ben,

Take a chill pill man... LOL.

I simply asked a question. I know alot of people who have the 1-2 shift problem and I was just asking Bob if the Goerend transmission was the problem... .

As far as my problems go... LOL I don't have a heavily modded truck.

an update please

I had the 1-2 shift bad when the transmission was stock. I live on 1. 5 miles of dirt road and if your were in the right spot it would shift itself to death...

I told my transmission guy what the deal was and he said he had a fix for it. It has never done it again :)
