Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) SMARTY question....

Have any of you beta testers got rid of your cruise surge from big injectors on the non electronic cruise control trucks?I was just wondering if the half power mode would do it or if there was a setting for lazy throttle response to compensate for big injectors.

Funny thing is now with the smarty my surge is LESS. Before I could keep it somewhat in check with the box off. It would surge but nothing like when the box was mistakedly left on. With the Smarty I just have SW#8 and box off all is great!!

Yep, that's even the accepted method by Marco for solving the problem. It limits the vacuum enough to slow the surge.

But, didn't 2002 models have elec CC? or was it just manual 2002s?

here is the fix thanks to Mike Dolan



I don't know if anyone has the same problem I've been having when appling cruise control. When I hit the set button the truck would sound like it was floored then settle down, but the cruise control was not steady once set.



I had read about installing some kind of adjustable valve inline with control module, but I could never find one.

My solution was to put a spray tube (little red tube) from a aerosol can inside the vacuum tube going to the cruise control module under the drive side battery. The tube fit perfectly inside the vacuum line, I left it a little long so if I ever wanted to remove it I could still take it out. The small inside diameter of the spray tube seems to be just right. Cruise control works great now.



I installed the tube up by the T connection on the firewall.



I thought I would pass this along in case anyone else was having the same problem.

I haven't had a chance to test the Smarty yet, so I don't know if my cruise control will act up or not. But if it does, would a coffee stirrer work the same as the applicator straw? :-laf

The Smarty seems to be much smoother than my comp. I've had similar results to ToolMan.

For '01, the autos are vacuum servo driven (just going by the service manual). I think the throttle pedal will move with the cruise on if you have a servo-driven setup. If your pedal comes back up and doesn't move while on cruise you have the e-cruise setup.

Cruise on the 2002 is electric. It works better than before on mine and this is on #9.

I know man! I'm just swamped down here in Memphis. Don't really have time to break away and go fool around. Plus the truck still has about 3 inches of snow and some ice on it from our "blizzard" this past Friday. It'll be Wednesday at least before it all melts.



And where have you been?! I can't believe you left us all hanging on your impressions of the Smarty! I was hoping for daily, detailed reports! :-laf

ALL AT trucks have the vaccum servo CC.

The 01 up trucks with a STICK have the electronic CC.



My vacuum CC was a mess before I sticked in the WD-40 tube. Much better now.
