I see there is a software revision dated October 5th, for 3 rd gen 5. 9's. Has anyone loaded this tune yet? Any word on what the expected changes might be? I updated last spring when the last revision was released. Any need to update again?

If you're happy with your current tune I would leave it alone. With all thats going on right now with Mads and the EPA who knows what kind of support we will get if we're having Smarty problems. Hopefully the 5. 9's will be left alone but who knows... ... .
As for what was updated I can't help, but when I had my 5. 9 I never updated my Smarty and was always happy with the mileage and power.

I did the latest update, aside from giving you POD it smokes a lot less, been real happy with it, I would update I if you haven't.

The EPA dealings are with ME software, this is a 5. 9 thread.

The Oct 5th release dealt with a DTC, and nothing else. If you have the May 18th tune you are fine, as that is the same tune as the Oct 5th in terms of the basics.

The recent tunes are great, never a good reason to keep an old tune just because it's good enough.

I should note mine had not been updated for a few years. Ya everything I hear about EPA stuff has to do with DPF equipped tricks, as long as our 5. 9's aren't blacking out the intersection I don't think it will be an issue.

I just updated and loaded it on my truck tonight. We are heading out for a trip tomorrow and winter and snow is coming so this time I loaded the fuel economy mode. This will be the first time I have used this setting. I have only run the towing setting since I got the Smarty except for 1 empty run trip where I ran the 100 hp tune to compare the fuel economy.

I just ordered the smarty jr from bd diesel's website. I live in Canada. It ships from Canada. There are diesel shops that sell them as well - if you know a good Cummins qualified shop. 3-7 days it will be here. Let you know how it goes - compared to the superchips tuner I used to run. SHould be MUCH better. '03 2500
