I am running a XZT+ / TST stack. Unless you are all out for competition I think this is a good stack.

The TST has proven to be extremely reliable and you already own one.

The XZT+ adds some timing and has some very nice features, but its Hp improvements gets paled in comparison to the TST. I get no timing stutter with the XZT+ using the more recent SW's.

no competition just trying to find something with alittle less chop and studder. how agressive is the timing. the smarty on any uneven # is to much I think due to moving to mach 4's I did not have this with the 100hp injectors. I use the smarty also due to clearing codes. but I get the codes thrown with the tst/smarty stack. (endless circle). I can always buy a code reader for less than a smarty. I will look into the xzt thanks.

I think, that if it were me, I would unload the Smarty SW and run only on the TST. Make sure you do not get any stutter. I had the same problem with higher boost and bigger injectors at first, even with zero extra timing added.

FWIW and IMO the Quad Adrenaline is probably the best thing out there right now if you can step up to that box $$$ wise. Possibly sell both the Smarty and the TST. I have thought about doing this myself, but like I said I simply find the TST extremely reliable so I have decided to keep it. My set up is working well so, for once, I have not jacked around with it.

That's essentially what I did - I'd had the Comp for several years prior to buying the Smarty, purely as a test. The Comp alone was perfectly matched to MY needs - my truck's main function is RV towing, and ALWAYS lots of steep hill pulling under load. My EGT's with only the Comp always topped out at about 1100 degrees, and I had power to spare - boost was at 34 PSI.

The addition of the Smarty DID add more low end punch - but the Comp was no slouch there, either, and always provided quick program level changes from the driver seat the Smarty was not capable of - so travel usually required that the Smarty be set at some compromise level that was as suitable for most of the travel route ahead as possible.

Eventually, the lack of down-the-road flexibility of the Smarty, plus other issues I won't mention here, led me to sell it - no regrets, and return to the Comp alone, while waiting to see how the Adrenaline works out, in case I decide to go that way at some point. Meanwhile, no need to "fix" what isn't busted! :-laf

BUT, as in the above quote, the Comp is so well matched to my truck and usage, no big hurry - but as far as *I* am concerned, the Adrenaline looks to be the absolute BEST power add-on currently available for 2nd generation truck owners, bar NONE! ;):DOo.

I have no studder or surge with just the TST and smarty off. well Im sure the smarty could be good for someone else Im probley growing away from it. I have thought about the adrenaline but also on the xzt as well. and stacking the 2 I dont know what I will actually get out HP/TQ wise but Im sure it will be smoother. the adrenaline sounds good but yes the TST has been flawless.

thanks for the help. so are things finally warming up for you down south.

Back to your original question: if you replace your TST with an Adrenaline I do believe your Smarty becomes redundant as a timing devise & would then be an expensive code reader & tire size compensator. Perhaps I'm in some minority but I get no stutter or surge at all with my Smarty with or without my APB tapping the pump wire.

my smarty and tst prior to mach 4's was smooth during acceleration but just a chop feeling when taking off when using clutch. when I upgraded to new injection pump and mach 4's and did head work I noticed the odd #sw programs to be quite chop/surge on acceleration but the even #'s were smooth but not as responsive as timing software. So I may have out grown my smarty.

NOPE - no surge, just way too much smoke around town...

Guys with older trucks and the vacuum cruise control had some issues, but my '02 has electronic CC, no surging problems, even towing...

Now I understand. My very first bomb was an EZ & the smoke startled me then. I could blacken the sun at noon, now:rolleyes:, but I've learned the art of rolling into it so that I rarely get more than a short puff. If you listen close, you can hear the pitch of the exhaust change as the smoke starts.

My 5 speed had vacuum cruise. The thing was a pain stock so I didn't use it. With mach 1. 5's & CaTCHER #9 it was down right uncivilized. :-laf but I digress...

Yeah, but for a gadget whose greatest claim to fame is low-end acceleration, uncontrolled smoke in the process makes it sorta impractical for street use.

IF the smoke issue had ever been corrected for 2nd generation trucks, I'd probably still have mine, but hasn't been corrected yet as far as I know - and yeah, *I* digress too... ;):-laf

Yeah, a final Smarty black cloud was the last straw for me. I was cruising down a road at 35 mph in 4th, I had to slow down a bit so I shifted to 3rd. Barely touched the diesel peddle to maintain speed, checked the rear view mirror and I had completely blacked out the car behind me. The driver of that car was a little old lady with her windows down.

JIM,

on the stack you are running do you think I will yield more alittle more or the same HP/TQ that I had with the smarty/tst stack. or should I say useable power I really dont know if the smarty added or what it really added power wise. also with this xzt+ seems I do have a choice of software seems it would be smoother and not jumpy. have you tried the economy settings? and last when you switch did you notice a power increase or just a more steady smoother power pull. sorry for all the questions I guess your the only one I know as of now that is running this stack. thanks
