I just noticed that the 300 hp is on 03 and 04 models. . I'm guessing the standard output. I've never tried the ppe so I can't say anything good or bad but I'm guessing the smarty makes just as much or more power on a 03-04 standard output cummins. .

I've always disliked the fact that PPE is the only manufacture to do the Flywheel HP numbers...

It's marketing, they don't hide it. but at first glance you see 300 vs 170 on the box, your going to go for the 300 :)

Yeah, you can do the math to arrive at that number. but seriously, had they tested it on an engine dyno?

Is that with a manual? or Auto? I know a built auto will have differnet lose of HP number then a stock one.

Power and Speed are not the be all end all either. Reliabilty and working within the paramaters of the engine and modifications is important too. The Smarty can grow with you. New turbo, injectors, twins, etc, etc. What other programmer can accomidate all of these changes? It even works for the guy who wants to tow his fiver and get a few more mpgs. I believe I also read a thread where marco wrote a program for an auto truck converted to run a stick. The dealership tried forever to get the truck to run but couldn't. They were blown out of the water when the truck fired up and drove off the lot. Someone must really understand the programming. There are numerous other stories out there. They can't all be fabricated. Good comments Gus. Nuff Said.

is it possible to do a shoot out with the smarty 170 and the ppe hot version? I am thinking the smarty would still win, but if not it would be pretty close. Also it appears to me that that smarty is over 200 dollars cheaper than the hot version...

Well PPE does have a HOT 2 version but its crazy enough you need to change out vavle springs and all sorts of stuff. will let you know on that when i get my truck going again with a g56 swap and twin turbos and I will let you know. my stock turbo and stuff that went with it is going on the GF's truck in next few days.

I went to the smarty website and read their info. it would seem I read advertising talking about smarty tuners in general somewhere not specific to the latest for the 2004. 5 and I tried to jump on the band wagon too fast without rereading. yes there are soemthings not fun waiting on tuners are on the list but other such things are better with more time involved. :rolleyes

and yes recently i have had a problem with PPE's customer service. It would seem they open shop at 9 and they cant call you back.
