I am interested in the Smarty for a little more power in my 02 5 speed ctd. How much power do you gain from this unit? Do you have to plug in the Smarty to change power levels? How bad is the black smoke under power? My truck is stock except for 3 inch strait pipe.

thanks

joe

You don't gain much power - about 60-70Hp I believe. The big difference is where you gain the power - at the low end. Thus the low end throttle response is much better. Yes - you have to plug in the downloader to change the program. The smoke is all up to you and how you drive it.

I'll try to help here. I have run Smarty for three weeks now on level 9. Moved up to it after running an Edge EZ for about 18 months. I have a 3" straight thru muff.

Power - 'rumored' and dyno proven about 60ish (don't quote me) but the real difference is in SOP and INSTANT spool. Throttle response like you won't believe. Words do not describe what you'll feel coming from stock to this... ... ... ... .

Changing levels - yes, you have to plug it in and not be driving/engine not running.

Smoke - none that I can tell, at least no more than stock or an EZ like I had.

I love it so much that I'm not even sure I'll add injectors... ... ... ... ... . well, that's misleading. I'm doing sticks next but now they will be smaller than I originally intended.

Hope this helps.

PS - I'm not being paid to say this - but it meets all the hype and then some.

I thought this whole forum was one big SMARTY/ Catcher advertisement for a while now but a friend of mine stacked it with the Comp and really likes it so I may be trying it out.

im new to the whole 24V thing but, im gonna buy a smarty and a southbend as soon as i get my tax returns. everything ive read so far about the smarty has been A+. i cant wait to feel the throttle response that ive read about. even the mads electronics page has a disclaimer about driving with the smarty on wet roads... .

I have a CaTCHeR not sure how this would compare (Might be equivelent to a Smarty #9). Edge EZ vs CaTCHeR was night and day. It definitely took some getting used to. It is funny when you let a friend drive and they can't keep the throttle steady because the response is so good.

Pat, the old CaTCHER & the Smarty #9 are nearly identical. I think the Smarty #9 might be tweaked a slight bit from the CaTCHER as it was originally released, but really they are about the same.

Where is the best place to order the smarty? I've had drivability issues with my superchips and can't live with stock. Will it raise boost also?

I have had my Smarty for about three weeks now and I am very impressed. My truck was completly stock except for a EZ. On my truck the Smarty is a huge improvement. I took the EZ off. If you pull a trailer you will really feel the differance. So far I have no regrets on this purchase.
