Smelling burnt oil on 05 6spd.

Ok I am new to this site so I don't know if this has been anserd yet? My truck is an 05 4X4 3500 dully QC 6spd. . When ever the truck is driven for a while and it is shut down It smells like burnt oil on the exhaust, but when I open the hood to look there is no oil on the manifold!!!! :confused: Please help I don't want 40k to burnup!!!!! :{

Still have warranty on it? I'd let the Dodge boys look at it.
 
An oil smell is common for the first 300 miles or so after an oil change with some brands of oil. Did you recently change the oil?

And the smell is worse with Rotella but I still like the the stuff! Let's me know I did my motor good!

What you are smelling is the oil breather, these new trucks have a canister to catch the oil, and that is just the excess gas from it. Oneday it will overflow and leak oil out of the overflow tube, unless you drain it every now and then..... ;)
 
Well hopefully the smell is not coming from the blow by tube like mine. Start it and take off the oil filler cap and see if you have blow by in the crank case. See any white smoke or feel air pressure mimicking rpm level.
 
Hay thanks guys for the info! I do have one more thing too ask Bodie, how do you like the AEM, have been thinking of using one on mine, and is it the dry filter??????

I like it.



It is the oiled filter, I got the intake for free so, no complaints :D

so if you see white smoke does it mean i toasted my engine! i see it out of the breather and the dipstick tube :{

SO THAT IT WHAT IT IS... ... . I just changed my oil and with CI rotella and it smells JUST like burnt oil when I get out of the truck... ... . I always look under the truck... ... . GO FIGURE... ... ... trucksalesdave... . central Georgia
