So I was fishing with a fellow TDR'er yesterday and we were discussing what would be really neat to have on our Diesels. We decided we want a button on the dash that would generate a massive cloud of smoke on demand. Mostly this would be for making people back off a bit, or the occasional smoking of some yuppie on his cell phone. Any one have any ideas on how to rig this up, besides different injectors and the like.

I injuect a mixture of kerosene and cement form oil into the muffler of my R/C airplanes for quite a trail of smoke. Course you might have the fire trucks chasing you.

Is this the desired effect?

OH Yes, that is the smoke I want. Although the idea of emmitting butter flavored smoke is tempting, I think the big stinky black cloud would be better.

You could use old oil that you just changed out of your truck. Me I think I would use something that just down right stanks. Run a steel tube to the exhaust. Get a pump maybe a winshield washer pump from wal-mart will do.
You also could run water in the exhaust and create a steam cloud.

Just tee into your fuel supply line before the injector pump, then thru an electric fuel pump, then into the exhaust just after the turbo. This is a basic stunt aircraft smoke system. "Flight leader to flight one, SMOKE ON". Z000000mmmmmmm, hak, hak, cough, hak #ad

You guys are going to give us all a bad name, they will think we're driving Powerchokes. I like Jeff Hs' idea but add some liquid fish fertilizer to the mix-guaranteed to bring um to their knees.

Better yet..... tow a Power(less)Choke on an open car hauling trailer. Put a remote starter on the Power(less)Choke, when you wanna smoke somebody out, hit the remote starter. If the junk starts, that oughta do the trick! #ad

When I was a senior in high school I had a 64 Chevy Nova SS. I ran a piece of rubber fuel line from the windshield washer tank filled w/diesel inside to a valve and then back to a spigot on the intake manifold.

During auto shop when the shop was completely full I backed the Nova up to the door, reved it to 3000rpm and opened the valve. The engine started to sputter and almost die. I then shut the valve an held the throttle to the floor until it cleared. #ad
The shop was sooo full of pure white cotton thick smoke you couldn't see your nose. Someone started yelling "Fire" #ad
and then the fire alarm got pulled. The smoke rolling out the door made it look like the building was on fire. Needless to say this was not one of my brightest ideas. #ad

Ohh, a huge steam cloud would be cool too, I can see this growing into a major project, four or five tanks and different pumps. One full of diesel for black cloud, one full of veggie oil for a nice white cloud, one full of water for the steam job, and maybe one full of herring oil for the stink job. Oh boy this could be fun.

Now I'm thinking about really doing this, but do youall think a windshield washer pump is strong enough to overcome the exhaust presure. Will I need a check valve to keep the exhaust from bubbling back into my holding tanks? What about the tank selector switches, manual or electrical? What will this do to my cat and muffler? How do you make pink smoke?

Iillflem
A Facet electric fuel pump already has a check valve and will overcome exhaust pressure. And is designed to pump fuel/oil. They are available at almost any autoparts for around $15. I would suggest a steel line from the turbo to about 2' to provide heat insulation. You can then goto fuel hose. you can make an orfice at the turbo to adjust amount of smoke desired. Unfortunately this will play havoc with your cat so it should be removed. Diesel injected after the turbo will actually make very white smoke as it is not being burned properly as in combustion.

Have fun

Ok here is another idea, tap your exhaust pipe to fit a spark plug and just up stream plumb in a small jet nozzle to inject fuel, now find some way to hook up a ingnition coil to the spark plug, you guys know the rest. Just flip the switches and watch the flames fly. I like my powerjokes and duramelts well done. #ad
