smoke controll next ?

Greetings everyone,



Just adjusted the power screw two turns in sweet... The truck is not blowing any smoke at idle or when I get on it. . After reading the thread I guess My next step is to adjust the smoke control screw clock wise around two turns to the point were I'm happy with smoke coming out? Right now I have around 20-25 lbs of boost. Will turning the smoke up give me more boost as well as smoke ?

Ummm. I don't understand the question... ..... You'r asking how to adjust the smoke screw or if you should????



Could you please state you question in the form of an answere??? LOL



Simply turning the smoke screw down will only have a small limited effect. It will adjust when the fueling comes into play in relation to boost psi. Can result in some more smoke upon initial launch.



How much smoke do you want? Insert evil laugh here.



I see you have an automatic. Smoke upon demand will be tough to come by. You have to load the engine down to produce it. It ain't like we can loose boost when shifting or skip a gear and floor board the thing with no/low boost. Yeah it's fun to row the gears, but the manual guys dream of our advantage (s).

I as green as can be when working on diesels. . Just trying to make some minor mods to the pump following thread that brought up the Genos garage power increase, I turned up the fuel screw two turns and just now finished turning int the smoke control screw two turns It feels like I have more power from the get go. . I now understand about not making a lot of smoke. Tomorrow I want to open up the diaphragm and look at the position of diaphragm and the shaft, will also turn up the star wheel clockwise for added fuel. Not knowing much Just wanted to know if I'm proceeding right and what gains in h. p. I might get

Turning the star wheel down will net you 'mo fuel sooner in relation to boost. Similar to turning the smoke screw down. The screw will set the initial point of the control cone in relation to the fuel pin which rides against the cone ramp/contour.



The starwheel will adjust the spring tension in relation to the boost spressure required to push the cone down. that's probably what you are after.



I have no AFC what so ever and can ONLY make smoke by applying the brakes and floorboarding the throttle. While driving, I'll only see a black puff when I nail the go peddle. It clears right away.



When we drive, we continue to build boost and it'll continue to climb as long as we add fuel. If there was a way we could release the boost and THEN dump in fuel like the manual guys do when shifting... ... . then we could see lots of smoke.



A locking torque converter would help load the engine. Our weak TC's just won't do it.
