It has been hot here in North OH. My a/c has been working O/T in the 1992. I recently noticed smoke from the column. The bottom cover is real hot. I traced it to the key switch supply wires. 12 gauge RED and the PINK/black trace. They be HOT.
I found the 12 gauge BLACK/pink feeds the circut of blower motor and windows. By way of the ignition switch.
So, I pulled the same power feed wire (BLACK/pink wire) from the connector @ fuse no. s 11 and 12 and solered on a trigger wire and up to a relay under hood. I fed a 10 gauge wire from relay and connected it onto the fuse terminal to feed fuse 11 and 12.
A 10 gauge wire from battery to the relay w/a 30 amp fuse feeds the relay.
When I turn on the key switch it powers up the relay and not feed power to the blower and windows. Dodge wanted to keep it simple, not to last a long time.
I hope this will result in a cooler and longer lasting key switch. Summer is over in Norther Ohio as of this weekend but I will "test" the operation to determin if my finding are worthy.
Thanks to Philip for the help in locating the OE symatic of the blower motor feed. The service manual is pretty tough. You really need someone to interpret that junk. 1992 trk wire diagram pg 8w-53
