I've noticed the last few times that I've cranked my truck when cold that I get a moderate amount of bluish smoke. The smoke only lasts about 15 seconds and after that does not reappear as far as I can tell. The smoke is not by any means dense and there seems to be some blasck smoke intermixed, which I assume to be normal. It reminds me of a cold Powerstroke when cranking. I don't think this is a problem but I just want to make sure. Is a little smoke normal when first cranking up?

PS The truck has 142k on it.

I am sure someone can chime in if I am wrong, but the air in the cylinders are cold, as is the cylinder walls as well, and that is just the cool air not burning hot enough. mine smokes white at startup, which we concluded someone has played with my timing before I purchased this truck. There is no need to worry.

It is just a little oil getting by the rings, or valve stem seals. It happens, and if like you described, nothing to be concerned about. These parts wear with use, and combined with low temperatures (which will increase tolerances) a little oil seeps through.

That's pretty much what I thought. I went and cranked my truck just a few minutes ago and it didn't even smoke a little bit. Oh well. Thanks for the replies fellas!
