There's a lot of variables here... .
Here's a partial list:
Ambient temp - cold ambient = white/bluish smoke
Fuel pressure - too low = white/blueish smoke
Condition of turbo - leaky seals = burns oil = blue smoke
Health of engine - oil consumption = blue smoke
Big injectors = mine smokes a little blue at idle when it's hot/cold
Retarded timing = white smoke
Worry about the smoke when it runs like dog doo... . if it runs okay and everything is happy - life is good.
