Smoked Clutch!! Need Some Info Please.

The family went camping this past weekend at Lahontan reservoir and had a little trouble with the sand. I got stuck and while trying to get out I smoked the clutch pretty bad. I knew it was getting weak and I was trying to limp along without replacing it for a while longer. It's holding for now, but I don't trust it anymore. I know what clutch I want and the pricing.

Anyway, What I would like to know is what is the cost of SBC's, or whomever else has them, replacement flywheel? SBC has pictures of them on the website, but I couldn't find any pricing on their site. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Generally speaking you shouldnt need a replacement flywheel since your 04. 5 has a good solid flywheel from the factory.



Price will depend on which model of clutch you want. The Con OFE is probably best for you though... .

Yeah Ill agree, go with the OFE and just have your FW resurfaced by a good machine shop.

like the others have stated you already have a solid flywheel, that is able to be resurfaced. and also like stated above i too agree that the SBC CON OFE would be perfect for your current setup.

For whatever it's worth, if that ever happens to you again, I live at Lahontan and have an old one ton w/ a 12,000 # winch. It makes getting unstuck much easier. PM me and I'll give you my phone #.

Thanks everyone. I had already decided on the Con OFE after talking to some people several months ago. Some of the excellent vendors on this site have given me prices before. This is not the first time I have slipped the clutch. You really think it just needs a simple machining of the surface? What if it's not machinable (is that a word)?

Thanks a bunch for the offer. I know how to drive in snow and mud, but sand is very different to me. I already told the group that I won't be going back there until I do some upgrades to my truck and the water level comes back up next spring (hopefully!!). My wife's friend's husband who has an '06 with a 6" Skyjacker lift broke the front u joint and in the process took out the 4X4 actuator. It took a Chevy and another 3500 Dodge to get him out of the sand. That was the best part of the whole weekend! The other guys were just being stupid when they knew better and and frankly, I knew better than to try to hammer it myself. No one's fault but my own. For the record, I hated it there. For a state park, there was no enforcement of the noise rules. I mean, they HAD to hear that boat on the water at 1am blasting the music. We were half a mile a way and it was like they were right in the middle of the camp. I'm not exaggerating. That system must have cost a small fortune. Thanks for letting me vent a little.

If it can't be machined then it'll need replacement. You can't match up a new clutch to an old flywheel with a bad surface.

That's why I was looking for info on what a replacement flywheel would cost. I can't have more than a weekend's worth of downtime on my truck.
