Okay, the smoke was fun for a few days, but now it's starting to bug me. I'm getting tired of the dirty looks when I take off from an intersection.

I didn't think that with just an EZ I would produce this much smoke. What's going on here? What's the name of the sensor that I think I have to clean?

TIA,

JL

JL,

I posted this earlier today on another post.

My ETH has smoked since I got it new. I know altitude has an affect because I can drive on the same tank from Vegas (about 2200') to Long Beach (sea level) and the smoke reduces. Outside temp and engine temp also makes a big difference. It also seems to run stronger after the first mile driven from a cold start until the engine warms up. If it put it on the 3rd EZ jumper setting it smokes like a freight train, even though the EZ is not supposed to make smoke.

I've done the IAT clean and check thing - resistance values check out at various temps so I'm not interested in throwing $$$ at it just to try a new one.

Since temp seems to play a big role, I'm thinking of adding an adjustable POT to the IAT - an in-cab dial-a-temp controller. Turn it up until smoke starts and then back it off.

I'll post the results if I decide to give it a try this weekend.

The sensor is the IAT. Do a search and you will find alot of info. Cleaning didn't work for me. LOtero is correct, jumpers at far left is delayed fueling (less smoke) but slower spoolup also. When my engine is cooler, it doesn't smoke even on far right. I put an in-cab adjustment for my EZ to play around with it. So I'm off to try the above.

Hmmm that's a good idea, I was going to wire up an in-cab adjustment for mine, but I just have not gotten around to it yet.

Mine's on the highest setting right now. I'll check into cleaning the IAT sensor. Thanks guys

I was going to wire mine to a 3 position switch as well, i have the switch, but never justified doin it because of the fact that there is no real performance benefit. it would have been a cool little mini-bomb though! :D

My truck with the EZ alone makes a good bit of smoke when I roll on the throttle more than necessary at low boost/rpm, and will make a little bit at WOT. I can control the smoke very well by revving the motor a little higher before shifting to the next gear or keeping my foot out of it a little until the rpms come up. I like smoke too though and I like the exhaust note when I get on it at low rpm.

I was pretty startled at the smoke when I first installed my EZ. Even with the jumper on level one I was smoking when I started out. I found I needed to relearn how to apply the throttle. The trick is in learning to roll into it until you have maybe 10 psi boost. With my current level of BOMBS, if I stab the throttle below 10 psi, I can block out the sun, but I've developed the knack of fairly quick starts with out the cloud. If you listen closely you can actually hear a change in the exhaust tone when the smoke starts.

Way too much smoke!!

I cannot seem to download the instructions for the sensor that needs to be cleaned for (less smoke). Anyone know which sensor that is, and is it worthwhile cleaning, and or is it worthwhile just to get a new sensor.

I installed a fass system, and my neighbor who is a diesel mechanic on farm tractors seems to think I am getting too much fuel pressure out of the injection pump and I ought to put a adjustable valve to turn the fuel pressure down. Does this seem reasonable or do I have to get rid of my (big turbo) Turbo technology (I can't rememberr the model I put on it,) ??????

I'm tired of too much smoke and soot coming out of there, (part of the problem is my leadfoot. ) I would like to clean up my act .

Hi Dean. I think it's the MAP sensor, but I don't really know much about them. What's your fuel pressure? I've heard more than 15 psi can cause starting problems. A fuel pressure regulator sounds like a good idea. About the smoke: switching to something like Mach 1. 6's would clear some of the smoke but I suspect you are over turbo'ed. I put a DZ 14 on mine & it seems about right.

 Let me know if you'd like a test ride. :D
