We just returned from a few weeks away to find that the stopper in one of our sink drains had been pushed up in to the bowl and various things on the counter had been knocked over while we were gone. My only conclusion is that something entered the house through the sink drain. Around here, the only possibilities I can think of would be a rodent or a snake. Since we have found no droppings anywhere in the house to this point, my guess is that we have a little slippery creature hiding somewhere in here.

Has anyone ever had a snake in their house? If so, any suggestions on how to get it to show itself?

Thanks in advance.

While in the USCG in Thailand in 1966-67 we had a snake come up the galley sink. We were getting ready to watch a movie when Sam our Thai mess cook helper started yelling in the galley!

How would a snake get in your drain plumbing? The only way one could get into mine would be through a vent pipe on the roof.

In certain areas of seattle there has been a problem of rats coming up in peoples toilets.

Here in Three Rivers, we are abundant in rattle snakes and other little furry critters. About once a year, we'll remove a snake from a residence or a possum etc. We bought one of these to put on our KME fire truck. Worked so well, I bought one for my home.

Well, I have 10 bated snake glue boards spread throughout the house. I purchased them from our local Home Depot. Lets hope they work. The girl working in that section of the store said to me that they have sold a ton of them this year. She also told me that I can use mineral spirits to remove the snake from the glue board once we catch it so I can release it somewhere. Um....Yea. I'll get right on that.

That's what I'm thinking happened here. We have a septic system, so if it didn't come through the roof, it would have had to go from the drainage field, up through the septic tank, and in to the house. I'm not thinking that is as likely as through the roof vent. Which by the way, is directly above the bathroom in question.

That's an impressive little tool. I certainly hope this doesn't become habit and I have to buy something like that.

Agreed. Of course, I never thought the day would come that I would be hoping to find a mouse in the house...

... that frightens the spouse who brings in a louse who rends her blouse to carouse in order to chouse the man of the house while he's out to rouse some grouse before he finds the touse caused by the mouse in his house.

There are times I shouldn't read TDR with a glass of cabernet in hand.

Mineral spirits seems a bit too harsh.

I've been told to use a cooking oil such as canola, vegetable or olive oil. If you don't use anything the poor things could tear their skins in an effort to escape.

For the experts out there, could snakes really get through the plumbing vents? How high can those buggers climb? Do they drop from tree branches growing over the roofs?

Thanks for the info.
