SNAP! Need a tailgate cable.

Opened the tailgate and it made an odd sound. Sure enough, one cable had snapped right off. Under closer inspection, there was a hole in the rubber,hehe, and where our lovely acid rain had got in, the cable was totally rotted through. I think the rubber was the only thing holding it!
Anyone have a spare? Yea right. You guys think making one is feasable?
I don't care if they are 50 cents at Dodge, I hate to give them any money!

Try the "Help" section in a good auto parts store. I think you can get a universal cable. You might be able to find a close match.

If you're talking about the metal cable that helps hold the tailgate up, email your address and I'll send you one. When I replaced the dented tailgate on my '96, I saved ALL the parts off the old one before I put it out with the trash. I believe I remember seeing them laying on the garage floor today.

The Catch: I'm leaving Tuesday for Florida, so it may not get shpiped until I return at the end of the month. Is that okay?

Gene,I made my own with cable from a hardware store. You will also need a crimp connector(correct name is sleeve)to make a loop on each end. Just smash the connector down with a hammer unless you have the correct $150 tool to crimp it.

Gene. I got two very good ones for you,the only catch is,you need to take the tail gate that it is conected to. It is a air gate,where the air flows right through it,kind of like the 5th wheel ones,but this is strait across the top,i know you would like it,it is free.

The only trouble with that Cuda, is my 4 foot Amsoil Decal acrooss the tailgate! I don't believe it would stick to the open grate very well. I don't have a 5th wheel anyway.

Would you believe a cable snapped on me last week also? The strands were all corroded and it broke right at the halfway point. It actually broke before the weight of the tailgate was even on it! If anyone has a spare lying around still I'd really appreciate it. I'll pay the shipping and some for the cable too if you'd like - not sure how much Dodge wants but I'll bet it isn't cheap.

I missed that last cheap shot!

Anyway, remember how my truck was stolen 2 years ago? Well, they got my Torx set. I never replaced them.
The cable takes a large torx, so, when Rob G's arrived today, I went and bought a new set.
I unbolted it, and lookit there, it is stamped on the inside "RH".
What are the chances? 50/50 right? i picked up Rob's cable and... ...
We have a LOOSER!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Rob G, I now have 2 "LH' cables and still no "RH'! LOL
That is what I get for trying to cheat Mother Germany.
If I would have had my torx set, I would have pulled that off and seen the stamp before I made the thread!
Moral?

OK!
After emails and mailings this is what we have!

I have Rob G's cable on the LH side, and Willyslover's cable on the right!
Willyslover's old wreck has my half bad LH, holding the only straight part? left on his truck!
I also have a front bumper off a Colorado truck. The rear bumper is from Indiana.
My truck came from Reno, so it is getting quite the history on it.
