My SnapOn timing kit came yesterday and I need some help from others who have this kit.

Part # SP5002 is the gauge holder.

The bore in the gauge holder is WAY too large for the gauge. The set screw bottoms out causing the gauge to set crooked in the holder and the extension tip rubs against the bottom of the gauge holder and it still doesn't prevent the gauge from moving up and down.

Am I missing a shim that goes in between the two?

My next step is to call Snap On, but I'm sure I'll be on the phone with some customer service rep that doesn't have an idea what part # SP5001 looks like or how it works.

I thought I would ask the knowledge of the TDR first.

Something is definately wrong or missing.

Sounds like you are missing the collar that presses on the dial indicator stem. The first one I got from Snap-on did not fit tight and the indicator would not stay tight in the holder. I can send you a picture of mine if that would help

Bob,

When this topic slipped off the front page I thought it was gone forever. Thanks for digging it up.

You're right. I don't have a collar of any type. I didn't see it in any of the pictures, so I didn't know exactly what I was missing.

I'll call them today. Thank you very much.

I feared when I called Snap-On, the person on the phone would have NO clue as to what I was talking about.

The girl finally went and talked to her supervisor. She came back and said part number SP5001 (gauge) and SP5002 (gauge holder)do NOT go together. I then asked her why they sell a kit with the exactly those two parts. Poor girl was baffled. After about 30 minutes on the phone and several calls later I got in contact with the manufacturer (Rotec ?). They said several kits were shipped out recently without the collar. They are shipping it to me on Monday.

Though the Snap-On customer service reps didn't have sufficient product knowledge, I'll have to say they did keep trying and found the right people who could help me. Good customer service.

So if anyone recently ordered a timing kit and it doesn't fit together, maybe this will help.
